What is up with SP574?

SP574 with SS4714 on this game.
I can use my volcano game test chips and do a clear and set denom and the BV accepts new $20 with no problem.
But that same board, with SP574 and SS4714 in it, doing the same clear, same set denom, and the game will not accept bills.
The bills go in, waits a while, then come right back out.
Is there a different SP I could put in the game with the SS4714 that will not give me such a problem accepting bills?
Or is there some kind of different set denom chip or procedure for a SP574?
 
BV is JCM200 - flashed for IGT all BV switches in off position.

Wow, never heard of that. I always thought one ID0 was for poker and the other for slot?

well, I was just taking a shot at what the problem might be, others here with more familiarity can say if it applies or not. I think at some point in time IGT switched from ID-022 to -023, but that may have been when they came out with the S2000 model and wanted to encourage customers to move away from the S+. If you can get a copy of the PSR for SP574 it might have the info you need to figure out the problem.

Of all of the PSR's I have collected that one is not one of them.
Any ideas where I could find it?

Here you go:

(I took a quick look, didn't see anything that would help clear this up. Keep in mind I'm not positive this is even on the right track for your problem. Also, some SP chips are for certain game "types", like type "0" or type "4". That might be something to check on also).

SS4714 is for a Red, White & Blue game, game type "0", right? Volcano is a game type 3 or 6.  SP574 is not for game type 3,6 games?

Another detail, SP574 is for use on the 10mhz mpu boards (the ones with the blue volume control). It may not be compatible with the faster mpu boards.

I think I'll try a SP1271, read thread here somewhere where 574 was substituted for a 1271 for a unrelated test.

The taking the bill in, holding it for a second or two, then rejecting it is typical of the validator being set to the wrong ID.  Some (maybe all) chips will also blink the "Insert Coin" lamp a few times while the bill is being held as an indicator of the problem.  Flip DIP switch 10 on the SW1 bank to change between ID-022 and ID-023.  Switch 10 off is ID-023, on is ID-022.

Of note, the pulses for a $1 bill are virtually identical between the ID-022 and ID-023 protocol, so you can usually sneak a $1 bill through even if the validator is set to the wrong protocol.  As such, if you ever have the symptom that the machine will accept a $1 bill, but will hold and then reject all other denominations, it's nearly always a protocol (DIP switch 10) issue.

I had encountered that on a PE+ where it's ID0 was that of a S+ but never the opposite on a S+, yay my first time.
