Hopper Size
« on: February 25, 2016, 04:47:59 PM »
Just picked up a very nice Fortune 1 machine and have a couple of questions. Will a full size hopper fit in this machine?  The small one that is in it does not seem to fill the base secure. There is a lot of back and forth movement side to side. I have a full size one on hand. Also are there lighted buttons on this type machine? I have one button that works and that is the cancel button. Other than that it works great and the first machine I have seen that has a stainless case.

That stainless steel cabinet is cool! What year do machines like this date from and can we see more pictures of it, particularly the insides? The "Dunes" graphics on the cards bring back some memories.

Last question, how is it possible the wife lets you bring it into the kitchen?   :Scratch-Head:

This one looks to be 1982 vintage and runs great.  Kitchen was the first place I could set it down and there it sits. More pics

Thanks for the additional photos, it looks terrific. Sorry I can't answer the hopper fit question.

(And I was just teasing a little about the kitchen, am jealous of your find).   :cool_thumb_up:

I"m pretty sure that is the factory size hopper.  the lights should all work,  I think it took a flat base type bulb,  328 seem to ring a bell,  I think the bulb fits up into the plastic button.

Nice machine,   I have the chips for other Casino named cards, can't remember which one's though.

Grumpy:

You should not be grumpy.  That is a great find.  My name would be giddy if I added that machine to my collection.

I agree with Jim that your hopper is the same size that I have in my 3 Fortune 1 games.  Be VERY careful removing the deck buttons to check the bulbs.   Those buttons are 30 years old and as brittle as meth teeth.   I kind of invented a sure fire damage proof removal technique and tool call the Ra Removal Method.  The thread is dated 11/22/14.  I even included a picture.  100% of the buttons removed with 0% of them damaged.  Your mileage may vary.

I am not really sure I follow you. Do you have to remove entire button bar and use fishing line from back of button? I see no room to get line in from top. Please bear with me old age is tough. Thanks

The Fortune 1 is a pain in the butt to work on the deck buttons. You have to unscrew the whole button panel from the door, then you have to unplug the wiring from the cabinet and feed it through the hole in the front door. Not every machines buttons all light up. I've had machines where the hold buttons didn't have lights..

As for the hopper it is correct for you machine.  Nice find! As for working in the kitchen, you should see my house

8 pound test fishing line is thin enough to fit between the white deck button and the black housing. The white button is about 1/2 inch deep.  Once you pop up the first one you will be a deck button removing machine.   The bulb can extracted with  thin blade.

Late reading this... but my Fortune 1 does not have lighted hold/draw buttons either - they weren't wired for it. But, funny thing, each one DID have a nice "new" (34 year old) bulb in the socket so, if you need a spare, you know where to look.
I didn't read RiseLikeRa's method yet... can you post a link?
For my old machines, I use a cheap feeler gauge and carefully pop off the top cover. Then I used a modified tweezer scissors (I put heat shrink tubing at the ends for grip) to remove the bulb and to reinstall the replacement.

I will locate the old post in the archives but I dont have a clue how to link it to this new list.  I will try.   I just pulled a few deck buttons last night just to make sure that my method still worked.

Yes!  That is what we discussed.  As I read it I noticed that I was not totally clear.  I push the line between the white button and the black housing that surrounds it.  Its tight but can be done.  Those white plastic buttons are 30 years old, brittle and as scarce as hens teeth.  The fishing line does no damage at all.  Several people have cracked buttons with even the most careful pry method.

Once the button is out you can check the condition of you bight bulb IF you have one.  T service the wires to the housing you may have to remove the entire button deck.  MOST of my problems were bad bulbs or improperly seated bulbs.

As usual my advice is free and worth every penny.
