Ceronix 1490 hourglass issue
« on: November 13, 2017, 12:05:34 AM »
I have an IGT slant top video poker machine. The monitor is a Ceronix 1490 and has recently
had an hourglass screen issue. None of the monitor adjustments can fix it. Does anyone know what I should
be checking for or replacing on the motherboard? Or if it is even fixable?

seems that the main logic board which supplies the video signal is good, your problem, more than likely , is with the chassis board mounted to the monitor.  The monitor should be able to be pulled directly out to the machine. there are some guides and a spot to hold the two posts on the side. when you pull out the monitor, there will be a id plate on the back of the chassis, probably will read 1492,  probably needs to be recapped, might solve the problem.  you could contact KLAR electronics repair (there link is on the top of the page)  they should be able to take care of this.

they should be able to instruct you as to how to remove the chassis from the frame. not difficult at all, just be cautious of the HIGH VOLTAGE LEAD connected to the tube, this voltage is usually bleed off in a period of time, however it is always safe to short this out to the frame before removing it, other than that it is a simple matter of removing the wires and connectors, take a good picture of where everything is connected so when you re-install it you will have a guide.

Hope this helps

Did this problem just happen when the game was turned on, or had it been moved recently?  Almost looks like the coil on the CRT neck has moved, or the adjustment on the CRT neck have been moved. I have found that there is a small white cover on that neck coil, under it are 2 smaller coils. I have seem those small single strand wires break causing this type of a problem. I have soldered the broken wire back together or run a jumper wire to fix that small coils connection. Not saying this is your problem, just one thing I have found..
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...
