From all my research on this one,
You can install a 904 board in a 906 III
you can not install a 906 III board in a 904
Cal Omega was backwards compatible, but not forwards compatible.
I was also told that the 906III Turbo boards can only be used in a 906III Turbo (Gamblers Choice) machine.
I hope this helps and I'm still experimenting around with this stuff so data may change very soon.
