Cal-omega casino poker pcb's repair
« on: June 13, 2016, 09:19:29 AM »
Hello, new member here, I just recently got a casino poker machine that has been sitting in my parents living room non working for the last 15 years, now I've had many arcade machines but this is my first slot machine, I've gone through it and discovered that the pin connectors on the motherboard, are broken and missing some pins, all three green lights light up so it does appear to work otherwise, and one of the chips on the game board has two busted legs, the motherboard is a 910, and the game board is a 904, I found someone who has both boards untested for $125 shipped, my first question is, is this how much these pcb's usually sell for?, and does anyone here do pcb repair?, thanx for any help,Ben

That sound a little high for untested boards... Member (dormi) does CEI board work, and my even have parts. You could try sending him a PM, personal message, tell him amechanic pointed you to him for service.. If he doesn't have what you need you could try contacting Larry Weber at K-Lar in Vegas. There phone number is 702-363-9998, but I would start with dormi first, he's the CEI repair man.. You can find him in the members section on the home page..

Can you repair the mother board or any of the game chips in any way just to see what happens? Even a temporary wire fix would be good to rule out stuff before buying anything. Yes member dormi is great... send him a PM as well.

I fiddled with it and tried to get everything making contact where it was damaged, all I can get is a blue screen to come up, at least the monitor works, I'll try removing the chips and cleaning the contacts and putting them back in

Do you have a soldering iron? If you can carefully remove the chips and solder on a "new leg" so to speak. I've done that before. It sounds like you have experience if you've had those arcade games.

I've done that, it seems to be making contact, I'm pretty sure it's the pin connectors on the motherboard, it looks like someone didn't have the board lined up and just jammed it in hard, I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to replace them

I might have a mother board here if yours can't be repaired.

Made some progress yesterday, soldered some jumper wires to get around the broken pins in the pin connector, reseated all the chips again, plugged everything back in turned it on and everything came up, played a handful of quarters through it, seemed to work good, but way touchy, as soon as the hopper fired up it threw up a blue screen with a question mark, then the screen goes all crazy, I did notice some of the chips sockets were really loose, I can turn it off and back on and it works for a bit then the same symptoms, at least I'm getting somewhere hehehe

you've made good progress on it. The sockets on those boards can be a source of intermittent connection, the socket contacts can get tarnished or oxidized over the decades. It's not an easy task but you might try replacing each socket that has a chip in it. First I'd double-check that you got all the connector pins on the various board connections fixed by doing what you have done. And the wiring cables or harnesses will have connectors that may be flaky, check as many of them as you can. It only takes one connector pin to act up and cause a problem.

The hopper will cause some vibrations that can shake flaky connections. There may be other boards in the machine that need connector attention. Does the hopper have a circuit board that may have similar connector pins that need to be resoldered or jumpered?

The hopper on the CEI has a pig tail plug that plugs into the mother board on the right top corner.. The hopper doesn't have a circuit board..

After I got the pin connectors clean and working, I just had to clean and reseat all the chips multiple times and i used a small wire brush and a fine exacto knife to clean all the sockets, it took quite awhile but it seems to have just been dirty connections

That's one of the biggest problems, replacing to old sockets with new ones fixes many problems..
