Viridian won't power up
« on: December 19, 2016, 03:08:42 PM »
We have a Viridian on our floor that was powered off by a floor attendant, we were told it had a cashbox tilt. When it was powered back on, nothing came back on. The player tracking that is plugged into the power supply still has power. Power supply was swapped out with a known working power supply, did not correct problem. Removed all peripheral devices from the back plane, still no power. Tried carrier board in another game, it works. tried another carrier board/CPU in problem game, it would not work. Tried different backplane in problem game, still no good. Power harness continuity check is good for P/S harness from back plane to P/S. Any one experience a problem like this, or if any of you can think of anything else to check, I'm sure there is something we are overlooking... thanks in advance!

That sounds very similar to an issue I had a few months ago.  We ordered new setec power supplies for ours and Happ delivered ones with a newer part number, 432999.  The old ones were 432666.  The 999s would not work in our narrow veridian cabinets, but worked fine in the widescreens.  We ended up taking an older working PSU out of a widescreen and put it in the narrow, and used the new one in the widescreen.  From a tech at another casino tells me, the newer ones will work if you ground pin #7 on the PSU power plug to the case and it'll fire up.  I haven't tried that trick yet, really don't want to unless I have to.

So far Aristocrat service has not provided a workaround or even an actual acknowledgement that there's an issue.

That is very interesting to hear about the power supplies, we get some from Suzo-Happ ourselves. One of the grave shift techs solved the problem, he swapped the power supply, and the video cable. Game powered up. I guess the video cable was the culprit, because the power supply came out of the viridian next to the problem game, both games 19" viridians. I will have to look at the part numbers on the p/s's from now on though. We have a lot of the 19" and the widescreen Viridians on the floor. Thanks for your input!
