Bally 1041
« on: April 30, 2017, 07:41:31 PM »
I just picked up a Bally 1041 and started the repair process.   I have a way to go.  First item I'm tackling is the bars held error. Never had a machine that had this option so I'm not 100% sure where to start.  Just checking if this bats held option is a switch or a coil or something else.
Issue: when a bar appears on the Pauline and the bars held also appears it suppose to hold the bar.  The light appears on the door glass however then goes out.   When I put in the extra coin.  All reels spin.  It does not appear this option is working.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Progress made.  A good cleaning of the plugs, wipers and switches, the bars are holding. Very interesting slot machine.  Next up is the coin in issue.  Can only get one quarter to register on this 4 coin slot.   When door is open coin switch lever is pressed 4 times all register.  When door is closed only one registers however it takes the coins into the hopper.

Brian, That sounds like you might have a wire in the harness that connects to your door to the cabinet is broken inside the wires insulation.. When open it's making a connection, but not when closed.. Do you have a door switch?

Gary, once again you are correct.  :cool_thumb_up:  I disconnected the top wire from the door switch and taped it off.  Now taking three coins.  Last item is the 44 bulbs, a lot of them are lose I wiggled them and they came on then went off again.  Any ideas idea if the holder can be bent to thighten the hold.
Will post the picture once I get the door bulbs in
Thanks Gary

Any one have thoughts on the 44 bulbs?

I've gone to running #47 bulbs. They run cooler. Exact same size and bulb style. You could try cleaning the inside of the sockets with a small piece of rolled up sand paper but a very fine grit. Then that your soldering iron and ad a small amout of solder to the bottom connection of your bulbs. That will tighten them up just a bit in the old worn sockets. Try one or two at a time. You can always file of sand any extra solder off if you added too much. It takes practice. I just did this to a feature unit on a 809 repair job I'm doing. Worked great.

I just posted this same comment on another thread but I think that it hols true for you as well.  See below.

I would humbly suggest, when possible, you might want to consider replacing the existing incandescent light bulbs with comparable LED bulbs.  I changed ALL of the bulbs that I was able to in my EM games.  What a difference! Brighter, cooler operation, NEVER had a single light burn out in 3 years since they have been installed,  gives the old games a fresh look.Bad part is that they can be expensive unless you buy in bulk but in my humble opinion WELL worth it.My advice is free and worth every penny.

Brian,  Did you just go with new bulbs or do the solder trick?

The game looks fantastic!   I have not seen that one before.  Is it fun to play?

I sanded the ones not working.  It's a fun machine to play at home.  Not sure I would say the same at a casino.   It likes to take but not give.
