Help with identifying game and problem
« on: June 29, 2017, 10:08:39 PM »
In-law has this game machine (see attached) and says that it stopped working after someone hit a royal flush with max coins. When he turns it on, he says it just sounds an alarm. Can you point me in the right direction on what to look for? I can provide more details about the machine if you can instruct me how to obtain what it is that you need.

Thanks for any help you can give!

There should be a jackpot reset key on the right side.
That being said I have two customers with those same games and when they hit a royal
I have to remove the 5101 Ram chip (it's in a socket) and short it's legs on some bare metal for about a minute.
This clears the jackpot from memory and the game will come up fresh and ready to play.
If you do remove the chip "watch the notch" the notch on the socket should match the notch on the chip when re-inserting.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Thank you so much! I was not expecting a reply so quickly.

I am going over there later today so I will check for the reset key and if that doesn't work I'll give the ram chip a try.

By the way, when you say "reset key" are you talking about a removable key? Like a lock and key? He mentioned something about there being a key but he says that he doesn't have it anymore. Will the ram reset have the same effect if it turns out we can't get a key?

The reset switch (also called a keyswitch since it takes a key to work) is located in different places on different machines, but usually it is on the right hand side not far from where the pull handle is or would be. The purpose in the casino is so that a casino employee can come over to the machine when a player hits a bigger jackpot and pay them their winnings. The machine is made to stop operation when a bigger jackpot is won, that way the player or somebody walking by can't hit a button and throw away the winning hand or winning spin on reels. In this mode the machine will not play another turn. It is sometimes called a "jackpot lockup" of the machine.

The casino employee verifies the win, sees that the player is paid,  then they insert the reset key into the keyswitch and turns it to reset the machine so it will start playing again. Inside the machine the reset keyswitch has a couple of wires connected to it, the wires go back to the computer in the machine and tell it to reset itself and resume normal play.

The most common key used for the reset switch is called a "2341" key because that is the number stamped on it. You can buy a replacement 2341 reset key for low cost.

If you can open the main door to the machine and find the 2 wires that connect to the reset keyswitch you can touch the 2 wires together, that has the same affect as inserting the reset key and turning it. That should reset the machine.

Here is a typical reset switch (sometimes called a keyswitch) but your machine may not be exactly the same:

On the right side of your cabinet should be a key slot. That is for a reset key. If you do. Or have the key you can jumper the wires inside on the back of that key switch. Doing that should clear the jackpot.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

Thank you all for this very details info. I will know in a few hours whether any of these techniques work. I'll take pics of the key location as well and will post a response in case it may help someone in the future.

It's a CEI. Most of them had the JP reset key removed. It was not a IGT reset key.
If here is a reset key on the side just reach into the machine and use your finger to actuate the switch manually.
If it is not there you will have to do a RAM clear of the 5101 chip by removing it and shorting it's legs on some bare metal. That always works.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

CEI used there own key. I've owned a couple, but only one came with a reset key.
