Title: Universal Super Stars and Stripes Cash Out button
Post by: DracFW on January 06, 2017, 09:03:39 AM
Hello! Just registered, first time poster. I've been using you guys' forums for troubleshooting for awhile now, but I finally have a problem I didn't see covered anywhere.

So I have in my shop a rarely lovely looking Ultra series Super Stars and Stripes, purchased by a customer from a Casino. It had some BV errors, but I've gotten it up and going....except for one thing.

It would appear, either by not having ever been there or by the Casino removing it to disable the machine as a gambling device, that the signal wire going from the Cash Out button into the door harness has been completely removed. Not disconnected, not clipped, completely removed, even from the plug that goes into the PCB that then runs to the MPU.

Does anyone here know where on the plug the Cash Out signal line belongs so that I may replace it for the customer? The plug in question is the black one above and to the right of the switch missing the wire.

Thanks!

An Ultra Series just out of a casino?? I cannot believe it!!! They didn't last too long in most.

Look at my pic. On the black plug, from the right going left, in the row closest to you, there is a GREEN, a BLUE, and a BLUE. That second BLUE, third from the right, is the cashout wire missing at the button. I put a white arrow pointing to it.
If you remove the wire ties and follow it out of the plug you should find it hanging there not connected to anything.

Lol, I dunno if it's -just- out of a casino, only that that's where our client says he purchased it from. Could have been 10 years ago for all I know.

I appreciate the reply, though, and I'll be sure to get that tested. Only problem now that I hooked that wire back up and turned DipSW1 #8 on to re-enable the cash out button, I've begun getting error 31. I tried disabling the switch and unhooking the wire again, to no avail.

I went looking and found your topic about it. I'm mostly sure my problem lies in the MPU not connecting properly to the back plane. The board has to be seated juuuuuuust right in order to get power to it, and a lot of times now the 7-segment number displays don't display correctly.

Looking at the MPU board from the top down, it almost looks like the right hand side socket is pushed back like a 32nd of an inch. I tried to push it back up even with the other side and got half-assed result for like 10 minutes, then it was back to being flaky.

EDIT::Fixed my Error 31 issue. It was an issue with seating the MPU to the back plane. I literally just wasn't pushing it in far enough. It took a lot more force than I thought would be needed to fully seat the board.

The Ultra mpu connection is the cause of 99.9% of the problems with these machines! I'm positive Universal rushed them into production and this issue killed them.
When you move that machine it will flake out again!
Cleaning the pins really helps eliminate most problems, but not all. Seen corrosion on ground pins.
Rocking the board by applying pressure on one side and then the other helps too.

The problem is the backplane. The plastic socket spreads the two-piece pin receivers too far. Barely any contact.
