Slot glass storage ideas
« on: September 26, 2014, 01:14:15 AM »
So let's see some photos how you all store your slot glass.  I don't like stacking mine anymore...getting concerned with the weight.  Mine have just been stored in plastic tubs with lids.

Thanks,
Jason

Vertically stacked on heavy duty shelving.  I bought some door entry carpet, the ones with the rubber on the bottom and about 1/4 inch thick to provide for some chushioning for the glass.  I then use a polystyrene foam board piece on each side where the glass leans into.

Those of us are lucky enough to have a wood shop can make something like this. It holds up to 30 pieces of glass and storage for reel strips. Of course if you are like Yoeddy1 you would have to build three.  :24:

My reel strip storage is not as clean as yours Ron. I basically just roll them up together into a big roll and store them in a box.  The cubby hole idea on your cabinet looks like the way to go though.

Depending on how many strips you have, the plastic under the bed storage totes (approx 36"x18"x5"?) work good for storage. I utilize 4 of them to keep my strips under control. I label each game with a sticky note and then alphabetize the games. They are pretty heavy when full, so they are not real portable, but it's super easy to find what your looking for.

It works well! I don't like to roll them up until I have to for shipping. Seen too much damage on strips rolled and stored too long.

So I ended up utilizing 3 storage cabinets in on of our entertainment centers.  2 for reels and one for glass.  The "glass" cabinet was lined with foam.  Worked out pretty well!

Thanks,
Jason

Im going to be moving across the country.  I am going to remove the glass from my IGT S+ for the move.  Any suggestions on how to pack them to prevent damage?

Lots of bubble wrap, tape and cardboard.  Don't forget to protect the fluorescent :Please_Post_Pictures_2clr:  bulbs, if one breaks it makes a horrible mess of things.

I moved from PA to Alberta Canada. I had 60 glass kits with top glass for both a 16" and 9". Somewhere around 200 sheets.

I used some thin foam paper around each sheet and then I put them in a cheap record rack vertically on edge. I did this to prevent scratching.

I put bubble wrap on the bottom of the box, popped the record rack on top and proceeded to line the inside of the box with more bubble wrap then I filled any gaps with those foam peanuts. Finally more bubble wrap on top.

Next I covered the outside of the box in bubble wrap and put it in a slightly larger box with  a base of foam peanuts filled in around the box with more foam peanuts and sealed it all shut. I had four of these. Each weighed a ton. I wrote all over do not Stack (the idiots did anyways) but all arrived 100% intact.

I also had 8 neon signs - 7 survived.

I store most of my Glass flat in the Plastic tubs with small bubble wrap between each glass. I take especially good care of the inside vinyl on the glass as not too make any marks.
Reel strips are rolled up separately &  placed in Plastic Cylinders. Dedicated reels with New strips are stored under the Slot Cabinets & other places to keep them up-right and even.
