Title: ceronix 1492- cant adj horizontal width
Post by: puckhead on July 07, 2016, 05:47:54 PM
i have a PE plus with a non working 1492. i bought a rebuilt chassis board and the now monitor works.  the screen width is a bit too wide, and the adjustment pot has zero effect. vertical  and all the other pots work.  anything i can do or check? could the board be defective ?

thanks

Did you check the resistance of the pot in question?

i tried, but dont know the value of it.  are they all the same?  also, it has 4 solder points, im used to three, so not sure if i did it right

Do you have the Ceronix manual that shows all the solder jumpers and other mods needed depending on what it's being used for? Some mods include adding or removing resistors or changing their values. What monitor/CRT does your game have? I bought some after market CRT's a couple years back that worked but I have to turn the screens width all the way down just to get the cards all on the screen.

You could try adjusting the screen control on the flyback to see if that helps.

The flyback has to knobs.. One is a focus and the other is a brightness or a voltage output. Be careful those Flybacks have been known it give off high voltage shocks. You could have a bad or weak cap on the H card, (Precision Resisitors Arrays) (PRAs).. There are also jumpers on the H (PRA).. I've attached a pic from my manual, is a little fuzzy..

I would read the suggestion to check the resitance regarding the h-knob ..... as 'does the resistance change' when you move the resistance knob vs looking for any particular resitance. Could be a bad pot.

They have 3 electrical legs/terminals, the 4th one is probably just for mounting purposes, so the pot is stable and doesn't wobble. A pot has 2 outside terminals, these are connected to each end of the resistance element. The middle leg is the wiper, it moves across the resistance element when you turn the pot. You should be able to measure the resistance changing from the wiper to either end of the pot while you turn the pot adjustment. Older pots sometimes get flaky from a worn out wiper or the resistance element coating wearing off. Turning back and forth a few times sometimes helps, or cleaning with contact cleaner. There can also be a broken solder joint where one of the pot legs is connected to the board or cable.

The value at this point doesn't matter.

If the pot is working the value will be different depending on what position its in.
If its shorted or opened completely its probably bad.
