Title: ceronix 1493 crt question...
Post by: mr-monoxide on July 17, 2016, 07:56:57 PM
So the model 1493 crt monitor in my bally V7000 has some minor issues that I'd like to correct. The colors and focus are fine but the screen has little lines zig-zaging in a Z pattern from one side of the screen to the other. Also the black background of the picture has a slight greenish tint making anything that supposed to be black appear greenish black. This does not seem to effect any other colors just the black. My question is can the problems I'm having be corrected by replacing the board or is it a problem with the tube? I've found a vendor that has rebuilt boards for this monitor and I'm hoping I can just replace that and have the problem solved.

I would suspect its the Caps.
You can get a cap kit and replace the capacitors.

It is possible that the guy that rebuilt the board once used the wrong value for one of the caps and that has caused the issue.

Use the schematics to compare whats on your board with whats supposed to be there.

Thanks for the reply. Since everything your talking about is on the board then I'll assume replacing it would fix my problem. Corrrect?

Yes, but you are talking about $18.00 worth of parts vs about $150 for a new board.

My experience is the thin wiggly lines are caused by the game's power supply.  This usually tends to go away after a long warm-up.  The capacitors in the power supply should be changed.  Try a different supply if you can before you mess with the monitor.  The green may be caused by a failing tube.  Or someone may have turned up the screen voltage at the flyback transformer.  It should be the bottom black knob on the flyback.  You should mark the knob with something like white nail polish before you turn it in case you want to put it back to factory adjustment (if it was not moved before).  Ceronix has an auto-adjusting color bias system that may also be failing.  The screen voltage adjustment is related to the color bias system.  The bias system is designed to compensate for aging picture tubes.

Adjust the voltage on the flyback transformer, it is the most common cause of the discoloration and the retrace lines you have.
