TRUCKING COMPANIES - especially R+L
« on: November 01, 2016, 03:39:25 PM »
I posted a rant awhile back about REWEIGHS - when the trucking company weighs a shipment and informs you that 250 pound shipment weighs in at 500 pounds!!!   Got past that one but they did not admit their error.  NOW the lastest and greatest scam - if you product does not use 60% of the pallet - they up class you - which usually amounts to an extra $150 AFTER you already paid for the shipment as quoted.  Is the mafia still running the trucking companies?   Why is that when i get a quote and say i am shipping a slot machine on a 48x42 pallet with 300 pound weight they don't tell you that that 300 pounds must take up the entire pallet?   My work around at this point is to pile empty boxes around the machine - cardboard roll around and shrink wrap - will look like hell but I will use up more than 60%.  Its bad enough that they have no responsibility for loss and damages they cause - they do not insure USED equipment - so they can damage - reweigh - reclass at will.

I also got hit by the 680 rule, but my rep got me a refund on it.  I now lay the machines down when I ship them. And they do not charge for being over 48 inches. I had a lot of trial and error, or trial and smashed machines but have gotten a decent system for 1 machine now. Scott

are you using R+L or SAIA?  I really don't want to lay a poker down on its back - so as I indicated I will just fill up the pallet with empty boxes and disguise with cardboard wrap - then shrink wrap.

I use R&L too. It was just a suggestion. I know what happens when you put a machine on a small pallet, it usually does not arrive as intended, Good Luck Scott

makes no difference on getting there - since you can't insure because the machines are "USED"  the truck companies do want they want.
