PE+ beginner questions (pictures inside)
« on: January 25, 2017, 01:26:01 PM »
Hello you all!

I was finaly able to get a PE+ machine, they are quite rare here in the Netherlands so even though it doesnt have the best game in it (yet) i'm verry happy i got my hands on it. Also sorry for gramar errors English isnt my first language.
I have read the forum but stil have some questions for you guys.
Let me start with the pictures of my machne.

Questions!
- My paytable is at 92,5% right now I would like to have a gamechip with a better paytable what would you advice me and where could i find them? (No way they are here in the Netherlands)
- I wanted to make sure that this is infact  superboard?
- What would i need to do to make it a multi game machine?
- I like to build up some credits to around 500 and then play for a bit. In the time i have the machine 2 ppl pressed the cash out on accident. Since i dont have that many coins in the hopper i have to keep refilling till it payed out. Is there a option to switcht to hand pay?
- In the option menu there is an option that i dont get. Credit type? (no credit, player forced credit etc) Whats it for?
- Also in the option menu whats the communication type option for? Or is it just for casino use?
- Last thing in the option menu whats the drop door yes/no option for?
- Final question. My machine has a power transformer in it that makes a buzzing sound. Where could i find a replacement one?

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to NLG, and congratulations on getting your machine, it looks very nice!   :cool_thumb_up:
Don't worry about your English skills, it looks fine to me. And if we aren't sure about something you write we can always ask for clarification.

When posting photos it is better if you reduce the size of the photos to a smaller filesize, especially if you have several in the same post, that way the page doesn't load so slowly for readers. Modern digital cameras produce huge photo file sizes, which is great for intricate detail but makes web viewing much slower on NLG.  For example, below is your photo of your mpu board, I have reduced its filesize greatly but it is still plenty large enough for most uses we will have.

I believe you do have the superboard style of mpu, it has both a Program and a Data socket for eprom software. Others here will say for sure. If it is a superboard all you have to do to get multigame is install a different set of eproms. The popular ones contain 5 different games you can choose from a menu.

There are several PE+ hobbyists here on NLG that can help to find replacement game software. It is normally just a matter of replacing the socketed eproms with different chips. PE+ game software can also be found on many MAME websites for free download, then you burn the files into eproms and install them onto your mpu board.

Some owners simply disconnect one wire from the CashOut button switch (underneath button, inside machine door) so it no longer works.

You are correct, the option for communications type is for casino use, in the casino the machine can be connected to the casino network for various reasons. For home use this is not applicable.

A lot of transformers make some sound, it doesn't mean it is bad, and the main (large heavy) power transformer are seldom bad. You can make sure its mounting screws are tight. Are you sure the buzzing isn't coming from something else, like a solenoid or diverter in the door? Or maybe one of the fluorescent light ballasts (which is a type of transformer), they are famous for sometimes making noise. You can temporarily disconnect the fluorescent power cable to see if that is causing the noise. There are usually fluorescent lamps behind the belly glass and in the upper box area and sometimes on the inside of the door above the display.

Also, whenever you get a machine that is new to you it is a very good idea to unplug it from the wall socket, take out the hopper and carefully look all over the lower cabinet area. You will often find loose screws and coins or other misc objects. These could cause a problem if they get in the wrong place, and if there is a coin lodged next to the power transformer that could be making that sound you hear. Do a very good inspection in the bottom of the machine, especially if the machine was laid on its side or back when moving it. You don't want something to cause an electrical short and cause damage.

I think the drop door option is for when the machine has a coin overflow bucket inside the stand the machine sits on. That stand will have an access door with a lock since coins are inside. All money storage areas on the machine have a switch to detect if someone has opened the storage area and gained access. It's a security thing.

You have a superboard for sure.

For Multi Poker, there are 2 options:

Wingboard - it's a hardware addon see this post:  http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=338.0

Multi Poker chip set - 6 matched eproms & color prom, see this post for more info on wingboards & Multi Poker chip sets: http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=10064.0

RE: The Door Drop:

If you look at your picture of inside the machine, looking at the coin hopper. You see the little red wire coming up the side.  When coins fill the hopper high enough they hit the screw that protrudes into the hopper bowl that's connected to the red wire.  This causes a ground and tells the machine the hopper is full.  With a the Door Drop set to yes, when you insert more coins a diverter is activated and sends the coin to the little black "funnel" next to the coin hopper which allows coins to drop into the cavity below the machine.  On casino floors it drops into a system of pipes that sends the coins elsewhere.  In your case they'll drop down on to the stand, ideally you would have a matching whole in the stand and then you would have a bucket underneath to collect them as they fall. If you set the door drop to off, when the hopper is full the machine will show "HOPPER FULL - CALL ATTENDANT" error.  At which time you'd need to open the door and remove some of the coins and close the door again.  I'm not sure if you would have to use the JACKPOT RESET key to clear the error or if the error would go away once the door is closed.

Lastly, the key slot on the right hand side of the machine near the top is for the JACKPOT RESET key.  If you don't have one I'd suggest you get one off of eBay they are cheap.  Search eBay for "jackpot reset key" or "2341 IGT"

The key is needed to change any of the settings you flip through by pushing the service button.  Also if you change the chipset you'd need one to be able to reset the machine's settings.

Congratulations, that's a nice looking machine you have.  Do you have an EPROM programmer?  Programming your own EPROMs would be the easiest way for you to change your game to something different.  For copyright reasons .bin files are not allowed to be posted on the forums, but you can find many Player's Edge Roms on M.A.M.E Rom sites.  I've used this site in the past to download games I was looking for:

https://www.emuparadise.me/M.A.M.E._-_Multiple_Arcade_Machine_Emulator_ROMs/Games-Starting-With-P/7

If you want to switch to a multigame chipset you'll probably need to change your CAPX ROM in order for the screen colors to be correct.  That can be more difficult as those chips are hard to find and they are not supported by most of the lower end EPROM programmers.  A member here designed an adapter that allows you to use a standard 27C512 EPROM in it's place, but you'll probably have to build one yourself.  Here's a couple of threads that you can read about it.

http://newlifegames.net/nlg/index.php?topic=1391.0

Here's a line to a document that lists some the the PEII programs and payouts.  It shows X000006p is the 100.1% payback version of your Standard Draw Poker Game, that one is available on the MAME Rom site so with an EPROM programmer you could easily update your game.

Have fun with your machine and Welcome to NLG.

Some owners simply disconnect one wire from the CashOut button switch (underneath button, inside machine door) so it no longer works.

Don't do that.

The PE+ buttons are wired in series.  Disconnecting the wire from that button will cause any buttons after it in the series to stop working.
