Aristocrat Viridian WS ; is it worth it?
« on: March 15, 2017, 02:26:41 AM »
Hello everybody,

i already own an Aristocrat MK 6 / XCite machine but now i´am thinking over to buy a Viridian WS or as an alternative a Konami Podium.

So it would be great if you could help with your opinions and experiences about these machines.

My generally questions are

* What are your experiences with these machines; especially with the Viridian WS but Konami Podium as well ?

* The machines are quite expensive (range 5-7k US$);  from your opinion; are they worth it?

*  Is it easy to perform a game change? I have seen that the Viridian machines need a CF Card and a SIM-Card. So there should be no change to get just the files and make your own CF-Cards like for the Bally Alpha 2 machines i guess?

* I have seen on pictures that most of the pictured Viridians and Podiums are having no dynamic button panel. Do you know if dynamic button panels are available for the Viridian WS / Podium machine as a spare part meanwhile?

I would be happy about any help and opinion.

Thanks a lot, Dennis

I'm in your same boat.  I want to get one, but finding that they are $$$ and games are not easy to come by.  The games have a security SIM-card (like the dongles on some wms and bally alpha games).  So just making your own CF-Cards wouldn't work, it's only 1/2 the battle.  My biggest caveat on this platform is the lack of game availability.  It would suck to pay the $7K to just play 1 game.  The WS veridians have dynamic button panels, they are full color ones, so sometimes it is hard to tell unless you see the game up close.  I have also seen ones with just inserts in the buttons, but more often than not, they have had the dynamic color lcd's on them.  The only reason I want to buy one is to play Sky Riders, both versions.  I also like Moon Maidens and Storm Queens.

Hello rickhunter,

thanks a lot for your opinion. Like you have said, thats my biggest bethink about the Viridian that i have to decide me for only one game and then its not easy or expensive to do a game change. Do you know its the same on the Konami Podium machines? Or do they need a SIM-card as well?
About the dynamic buttons: The seller told me that the machine (Viridian) comes with static button panel. Because i would like it with dynamic buttons my question would be if its possible to buy such dynamic button panel as a spare part?

Thanks again, Dennis

The viridians are starting to come out of casinos as the newer cabinets are being put in.  My guess as far as the dynamic button panel is that they will become available as the machines begin to get parted out.  I'm thinking if you buy one now, it's going to cost a pretty penny.

You could always convert a MK6 to a MK7 (Viridian)
I love mine.
The conversion kit allows you play SOME of the WS games.
To do the conversion you do need a dual monitor MK6 machine like a Outback Jack,Mr Woo,ect.
Also need the a LED button deck with the bash button.
The software titles arent too expensive.I buy most titles for around $50

I own a MK6 machine but it´s a XCite Hyperlink version with a big LED-dotmatix display in the top so no dual monitor.

Besides of the games i could play the other reason for me to buy a Viridian or Podium machine is the LED-lighting at the machine corpus. And i thought that the Viridians are having dynamic button Panels but right now it seems to me that at that Moment i will not get such an Panel.

Another question about the games: Which games are progressive ones (Viridian and Podium) ?? :Scratch-Head:

Thanks a lot
