Red White & Blue - Error 61 Wont Go Away
« on: June 05, 2017, 05:25:44 PM »

Not sure what type of IGT machine I have, but I believe its an IGT S from searching the internet trying to figure out how to fix my issue. And then I came upon this forum. Hoping to get some expert advise on how to fix, so I can get back to playing. Nothing like paying myself a jackpot. Wish casino's would pay out as often. Lots of Laughs. Actually I kick my machine now and then because I think its tight.

Anyway, I have done routine maintenance before and replaced the battery before because of an error code 12. In fact that's how this time around all started. Turned her on, error code 12. Ordered and replaced the battery, and now I have a error code 61. I googled, and did the following...

Opened the door, pushed the reset button top right, and it went to 61-1. Closed the door and then turned the jackpot key one turn. All seemed fine. about 5 or so seconds later back to 61.

So back to google. This time I took the motherboard out again and reseated the CMOS, the Game Prom, and the Reel Prom. Did this because some mentioned may be a good idea or try. Some even recommended replacing one of the chips but not sure which one or where to get it. Or if that is even really the problem?

All I know is my machine is in the 61 loop thing I see referenced on the internet. Recommendations welcome. Thank you much for any support.

I attached 2 pics, to hopefully identify the machine and the board it has. By the way, I have had this machine for at least 10 years. Everything always worked fine. Never had an issue other than error 12.

Thanks.
John

Got out of 61 loop once by changing game prom. If that don't work clear it and reset the bv. Looks like an s+ to me.

Just get S+ clear and set15 chips.  set15 is to reset your BV (bill validator)  Someone here should have them for sale.

Thank you. Will look for those now. I'm happy to buy here or ebay. Rather support here. Only been a member a few an hour or so and already getting awesome support and assistance.

you said, Just get S+ clear and set15 chips.  set15 is to reset your BV (bill validator)

so could you tell me how to use these. Do these remain on the board, or just used to clear/reset and then put the old chips back in? the wording of the chips are clear, but where they actually go on the board is not. the S+ clear is the game prom chip right? I haven't figured out which chip on the board is the bill validator yet. That was working before. Not sure now.

Here is a thing to try that will not cost you
Pull the cmos chip for 10 seconds and see if that will clear it

I tried that. even waited 5 minutes. went to 61. clicked the reset. went 61-1. turned the key, went back to 61 after 5 seconds or so.

It sounds like he's buying one and that should get him up and running.

Follow the clear procedure, then once your machine is up and running with coins, use the SET chip to enable the bill validator.  You can enable the validator at any time, so my suggested method for least frustration is to get the machine working with coins first, then once you've successfully played a game or more with coins (and have zero credits on the machine), then follow the steps to enable the bill validator.

Edited to add:

Since we really didn't have it documented well on the site, I have added a FAQ post on how to do a RAM clear on your machine.  We typically discourage the use of the RAM clear chip as people think it's a cure-all, and it isn't, but the 61 loop you're in is one of the rare times the RAM clear chip is needed.  For reference, here are the directions: http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=16134.0

Ok, got the chip sets in. So far I am good to go. I now have the machine playing quarters again. Now working on the BV chip so the bill acceptor works.

After that, I would actually like to change out the quarters, and have it play tokens instead. Is there anything special I need to do, or know? is it as simple as replacing the quarter inside the door with the token? or is there more to it.

and again, thank you all very much for getting me back up and running.

ok, all is good now. got the quarters working and the bill acceptor. thanks all for help. awesome!

now just curious, want to replace quarter in front door with a token. do I just do that? or is there more to it? I bought a lot of a 1000 tokens (all the same). just easier to use and play with vs having a bunch of quarters. plus I like my sodas and newspapers so never have quarters lying around.

thanks! let me know. just replace the quarter with a token, or is there more to it, to make it work. thank you.

Good job on getting it all working again, and you're correct, so long as you're using quarter sized tokens, all you have to do is swap out the coin in the comparator.  Nice job, and thanks for posting a follow-up that you got it all figured out.
