Back lit reels
« on: June 18, 2017, 08:46:29 PM »
Trying to change to back lit reels on a 3 reel game. Purchased everything, reels, harness and it came with the board below. The last connector in the harness connects to this board.  But what else connects to it?
Thanks,
Dave

Power and your i/o board that is mounted to the side of the MPU is what else connects to it. There is a 6 pin molex on the board for power but you only use 4 spots. Some of mine come down from the distribution board in the top box. The i/o harness goes directly from the i/o to the backlit controller. I can sen pics if needed. Ian
PS, you should have received 2 harnesses if they told you it was everything that you needed. 1 for the reels and 1 for the i/o board. Some machines already have the power connector hanging out near where the board goes (although I've had some that dont and had to make my own). You should have also received the mounting bracket for the board itself. It mounts on the back wall.

Ian, I have had some time to play around with this.  I found the missing cable. I have it hooked up as in the picture, but still get no lights on the reel.  THere are 2 empty connectors (J1 & J4). I have no other connectors to hook into them.  Do I need to make a jumper cable to bring power form the distribution board down to this controller board? IF so, what would the pin configuration be?

Thanks,

Dave

Yes. Sometimes you can find the connector tucked away in the harness coming from the PS. Otherwise, I have made my own 4 pin to 6 pin from distribution board to backlit controller, RED and BLK/RED is 12v. ORG and BLK/ORG is 24v. Not sure if you actually need the 24v but it's that way on my machines.

On most nachines the power plug for that is tucked into the harness on the back wall that runs directly above where you mounted that controller

The only one I could find is like the one in the picture (2 wires attached). I can change connectors on it and us it? or make a jumper so it will reach the board?  it has a red and black wire.

If the BL power harness is coming from the power supply then it should be close by. I have taken a picture to help describe what Cowboy is mentioning. If there isn't a harness then one will need to be made like Ian mentioned or one that power is supplied from the motherboard. (bottom right second connector up)

BTW .. I had to pull the molex connector down to take the picture.

I did note that in my post. I have one machine that had no connector there which is why I had to run it down from elsewhere. All of my other machines have the connector in the main harness near PS.

It's best not to go guessing. Look at Ken's post. The connector in the pic is exactly what you're looking for. Sometimes you have to dig around in the wiring because it's all zip tied behind the loom. If you can't find it, we will have to find another source.

I found it and it works.  After looking close at Ian's pic, I could see his harness/connector was coming down from the top harness. It was there.  Thanks for your help.
