Game King Version?
« on: May 08, 2014, 06:15:15 PM »
Hi,

New member here. I am looking at purchasing a game king for my mother and know next to nothing about slots. I found a machine for sale and hoping someone can help me with some questions before I buy. I attached a pic I took of the machine for sale -

1.) The machine Im looking at has both coyote moon and wolf run slots installed. Ive read a couple posts from forum members who have reset machines with coyote moon & wolf run and been asked for an "activation code" which needs to be supplied by IGT. Since IGT wont supply the code to a non casino it effectively disables the game. Do I have to worry about re setting and disabling these games? Or is that was that only for specific machines? Im confused. Mom really likes these slots and I don't want to run the risk of losing them.

2.) Is it possible and easy to enable more slots? There are only 6 on the machine now - wolf run, coyote moon, black rhino, double bucks, super 8 race, and Cleopatra. Are there more slots somehow built into the machine that I just have to select after a reset or do I need to buy additional chips to make them work?

3.) What "version" is the machine? I see different members saying "I have a 5.x machine" or 6.x etc. The machine Im looking at is different than the pictures Ive seen posted here - it has a menu running vertically along the left side of the machine with 10 options for different poker games, slots, keno, blackjack, etc. The ones Ive seen here and on eBay generally have only 4 options horizontally on top of the home screen.

4.) What "keychip" do I need to perform a reset?

Very much appreciate any help.

I'm sure someone while chime in who knows much more. I think the software in that machine is "Super Star Poker" or possibly "All Star Poker". It's like a Game King but it doesn't have a Game King version number because I think it's marketed differently due to Action Gaming having patents on multi-hand poker games, or something like that. Hopefully someone will chime in because I would like more info myself.

In my opinion, you shouldn't have to reset a machine unless in a desperate situation.  Even if you choose to modify the way the machine is setup, the key chip should do that for you (see question # 4) without have to clear the entire machine and start over.  Errors often come in when there is a license dongle involved.  The date of the game must also match the date of the license.

It is possible there are more games.  With no credits on the game, press the White Reset button inside the machine, touch Setup and touch Games.  This will show you all of the games available.  To enable a game that is not enabled, you will need a key chip (see question # 4).

I believe it's an 044 platform.  A picture of the inside of the cabinet would confirm.  Game King 5.x and below are on a 3902 platform and Game King 6.x and above can be either on 044 or AVP.  Given the picture of the cabinet, I'm betting it's an 044 because retrofitting an AVP would be much more work for that cabinet.

I don't know the exact version of the game set.  It's most likely made for a bar or tavern so that the player has a lot of choices of games on a single machine.  Similar to All Star Poker themes.  I've actually seen this game in my local tavern (Black Mountain Grille on south Eastern in Las Vegas).
4.) What "keychip" do I need to perform a reset?

I can't be 100% certain, but I would recommend a key 28 if it's an 044 board.  If it's an AVP, then you would need a USB key and I would recommend key 7.  The key 28 would be built into an AVP, but you need the key 7 to access it.

Thanks for the response - follow up question: I might not be using the correct terminology - ie "reset". I thought using the key chip, (clearing the eprom and ram on the key chip menu) was resetting the machine. I think what I'm understanding from your answer is that I can do that (to change denominations and change games) without risking losing coyote moon and wolf run. What reset procedure should I avoid that could trigger locking me out of those games?

I emailed the seller and asked him to perform the procedure you outlined below to check for more available slots. He did not find any so it looks like just the 6 are included.

I am waiting for him to provide a picture of the inside of the cabinet. I will post it here when I receive it.

Thank you again for the help.

Pete,
The software in the picture you provided is a very nice multi-game set-up. I don't have it at home, but I have played it (or a very similar version) in the casinos. I would enjoy owning it myself! I don't know the seller but I'll bet all the games are enabled already and I'm sure if you asked for specific denominations they would do it for you before shipping it out. Plus, it's a gift to your Mom. So I'm thinking your unlikely to be using a keychip at all unless your planning on adding TITO or changing the game software.

Also, you're awesome for buying someone in your family a machine and researching it too.  :cool_thumb_up: .
Just some thoughts this Friday evening.  :drinking_wine:

Completely agree, it seems like a great machine and I don't want to overthink it, it's just the machine costs quite a bit of money, I would be purchasing from a private party who is relatively unfamiliar with the operation of the machine (and will not provide a warranty), and I live far away from my mother so I want to make sure it is set up correctly and maintenance free.

Im confident Ive resolved all the initial questions I had but I'm still worried that there are at least 3 previous posts on this board from people who have apparently locked themselves out of those two popular slots by accident. It's not clear but I think they may have had different machines and Im not sure that whatever they did to cause their games to prompt for an authorization code would also lock me out as well. Coyote moon and wolf run are apparently native to this gameboard vs being "added" games (I don't know if that's possible) to the people who previously had those games and posted problems.

Id feel much better if someone chimed in and maybe said that since this game board is apparently the first to feature these two games in this format (per the promo from IGT I found here: http://www.videopokerforcasinos.com/pdf/tis/TIS-April2010.pdf) I wont ever run the risk of disabling them. Maybe they dont require a dongle or authorization code?

At the very least Id like to confirm that I wont have this problem if I end up trying to use the key chip to change denominations or select new games at some point in the future (I had planned on changing the denomination of the slots to penny/nickel). Or if this board is as likely as the others to cause issues with those slots and there was a list of things I definitely shouldn't do to mitigate the risk of accidentally disabling those games that would be great too.

Thanks again for any insight.

When you use a key chip, you are prompted with 3 choices: 1) Clear Ram, 2) Clear eeprom, and 3) Enter key chip menu (the wording is slightly different).  So long as you use option 3, the key chip menu, and stay away from changing the dates while you're in the key chip menu, you would be okay to change denominations.  It's clearing the ram and eeprom that requires the machine to be setup from scratch.  Changing the RTC dates can also lead to invalid licenses.

I too wish I had that game.  Not sure where you're located.  Prices vary from state to state and location from location.  In Vegas, people ask anywhere from $800 to $1200 for a 3902 setup.  For the 044, they're $1500 to $2000.  To get an 044 with that game set would probably add more (I know I would pay more for it).

Good luck in your purchase.  I know your mom will certainly have a very nice Mother's Day.

Yeah, that's an 044 game, and very rare to find that particular setup outside of a casino environment as that game set is, to the best of my knowledge, only supposed to be available on a lease basis to casinos (and not for sale outright).  Casinos are supposed to return those boards to the manufacturer when the lease is up.

I would strongly suspect that only the slots pictured are available (ie. there aren't others that are hidden because they weren't enabled), as well as all of the other video poker games in the tabs on the left hand side.  I would personally love to get my hands on that board...

All you have to do is ask Kevin, believe it or not there is actually people who sell good stuff not offered up everywhere else

Super Stars Poker is the only 044 Game with True 044 Slot Full Versions and it has 2 Wolf Run and Coyote Moon along with the watered down version of Cleo like on GK 6.2 PLUS multi hand poker as well as Blackjack and Keno's

All in all THE BEST 044 Flash ever made

If someone posts all of the games available with this software, I will really appreciate it. Especially the video poker games and whether each individual game is single or multi-hand or both.
I have a feeling a couple of folks are going to own this soon...

Someone wanted pictures of the menu screens because my total game count (100) was a little different than was apparently published elsewhere so here you go. Remember that for "Super Times Pay Poker" and "Ultimate X Poker" there are also triple and five multi hand options that can be enabled instead of ten hand in the pics - so there are 28 more games which are not shown but available. Black Jack is not pictured but there.

Also pics of the slots as requested. Coyote Moon and Wolf Run are full feature, the others all have a bonus except Black Rhino.

I guess what I meant to ask was what is the difference between GK003319 (Super Star Poker) and GK003522 (Game King 6.4M).  3522 is newer, but what about game differences.

Mod note:  Game titles added for clarity.
