Confederate Battle Flag
« on: July 03, 2015, 04:27:55 PM »
Sticky issue here.  Spending mosy of my life in the deep south I learned about the heriatage and sacrifices.  I always flew the stars and bars and the american flag on the 4th of july and other occasions.  Now I will fly neither. With all the push to do away with heriatage and such I am just flabbergasted. I guess some used the flag in a wrong way.  Some of my family in the tree fought for that flag and I honor that. I know it goes deeper on other issues, Just a rant.  May as well move to another country and they can raise the mexican and african flag here now I guess. -Just saying-it is a rant.

I know what you mean, my Mom was from North Carolina and I never looked at it as anything other a Southern thing. Many of my Great Great Uncles fought  and it was just something I just grew up with. Too bad some people have made it a thing of ugliness.

It's part of my heritage, family members that lived in Missouri, Arkansas and Tennessee, some are buried at Vicksburg in the huge National Cemetery there. But most are in separate cemeteries like Soldiers Rest for the Confederate soldiers, the Union required the graves to be separated between North and South. The Civil War was so much more than about slavery, it was about states rights and resisting the federal government from being able to tell states what to do. Anyway, it is over, the South lost, we are all part of the same country.

I think the stuff going on today is mostly about groups of people wanting more power, more freebies, more recognition. I know there has been wrong doing by plenty of law enforcement types but that doesn't justify lawlessness, destroying or defacing Confederate memorials and private businesses. Some people just want to act out and they use situations like this for their own selfish reasons. Seems like the government has to appease the lowest common denominator instead of standing up for what's right.

just my opinion.

History is written by the victors. Thus the  deification of Lincoln, and the twisting of reality that suppressed the issue of States rights versus the power of the federal govt. The spirit of the Confederacy was the same as that of the Revolution: republicanism, which is the rights of individuals protected by constitutional law.

Unfortunately, constitutions are historically always undermined by professional politicians who know how to "guide" the votes of  shallow minded voters.

It will take another rebellion/revolution/civil war to fix it; or make it worse, depending on who wins this time. (Providing it goes down before the growing China/Russia axis grows too big)

The IDIOTS of "Today" (rolling my eyes). What the hell do they teach in schools these days???  OBVIOUSLY, NOT HISTORY..... I'm so sick of IGNORANT people getting the headlines.  :banghead:

Edgerton blames the media and the educational system for creating the perception that exists today regarding southern history. "This is a continuation about the lies of the Christian southern white folks during the Civil War. African Americans in this country don't know a thing about that war and that time. They see that flag and someone says slavery and it all falls apart and they think of Southern Christian white folks as being evil."
"We can't let the stars and stripes get away that easy. Never were the stars and bars flag flown over a slave ship. And you want to know why? Because it's a Christian Battle Flag that was emulated after St. Andrew, Jesus Christ's first disciple. In 69 A.D. in Petro, Greece -- now a part of Russia -- St. Andrew was jailed because of his teaching and preaching of Jesus Christ, his Lord and Master, and he was told he was going to be crucified on the cross. He begged that persecutor not to nail him to that Latin cross in the shape of "T" because he was not worthy of being punished the way Jesus Christ had been nailed. So he begged to be tied in an X-shape to the cross and the persecutor did what he asked him to. That X is a Greek symbol to CH, the first two letters in Christ's name. When St. Andrew was on the cross he continued his teaching of Christ and all the folks started believing him and for three days he remained on that cross teaching and after three days they begged the persecutor to take him down and when he did, St. Andrew came down off that cross and died, and he became a martyr and a saint.
"When (Civil War Confederate ) General Beaureguard decided they needed another flag, he chose the cross of St. Andrew for these reasons. Most Southerners, in fact, did not want to do away with the stars and stripes because they didn't feel they had done anything wrong. They thought it was the north who was eradicating the Constitution.
"And as for President Lincoln, our American hero, who signed the Emancipation Proclamation. In march of 1861 Abraham Lincoln called all those black leaders in his office and he told them -- Even if I set you free you'll be inferior. You need to get out of the country because I will colonize you. Lincoln proposed the 13th Amendment, being the only President ever to do so. That amendment said Congress would never have the power to interrupt an institution of state. He told the southerners they could keep the slaves if they paid the North a 42% tariff. The South agreed to a 10% tariff but not 42%. So, who I am supposed to blame the institution of slavery on?

Take down the flag because of the KKK ? What a bunch of crap !  The cross is also one of the KKK symbols ............... guess we should all stop being Christians !  People can make up anything they want, but if the Confederate flag needs to come down because it represents slavery, then the American Flag needs to come down because slavery existed for over 100 years under that flag before the Confederacy ever existed.  We have to stop bowing down to a few and stand up for the many.  Winston Churchill once said, "You can only equal down", but if we want equality for all we have to set the standards high, not lower them.  That flag, like all of our National and State flags, are part of America and as an American I am proud of all of them.

I agree with Denny.. The flag is part of our US History, pretty or not. I personally don't have a problem with it. When you look at the Confederate flag it reminds me of when we would fight for what we felt was right. We didn't give into every little threat made. We're Amaricans and I think we need to start standing up to these people and telling then, if you don't like it then leave.. We speak English here, I shouldn't have to press 1 to continue in English when I'm on the phone. I know I'm getting sick and tired of being told what I can fly, or even to day Merry Christmas, F*ck Happy Holidays.. What's next, shoot the Easter Bunny??  :angry_kitty:
