Double Diamond Problem
« on: April 10, 2017, 11:09:04 AM »
I got some machines in from a casino in Az. the chips were removed from the board and came in a tube labeled Dbl. Diamond Gold Mountain, SS - 3632.

I put the chips on the board and powered the machine up. Power is on but I get nothing on the seven segment display.. There was also an extra chip in the tube the is a S-plus Reel, MECH SS3632. I didn't see a spot on the Board for this chip as it is 28 pins. Any hep is greatly appreciated.

The game is running an S+ game in the S2000. The empty socket is where the SSchip goes. It sets all the way to the back of the socket leaving the front slots open. I'll attach the link and it shows pics.

Ok...So I plugged in the reel chip and powered the machine on. After about 1 or 2 minutes the alarm goes off and the winner paid and credits display give me a message of "no display". Is this telling me that I have a bad 7 segment display. Also in the link that you sent it says to use a key 17 chip. Is that the key chip for a SPlus machine? I don't have one....Have to get one unless my key 45 will work.

I've tried everything that I could find in the forum.

Replaced the battery
Disconnected the bill validator and the printer
Replaced the vfd and the driver board for the vfd

Still get the no disp message.

Any other ideas at this point would be welcome!

Thanks

Try another set of chips, just any SB chip that is not the sb10000 and remove the SS chip.  The SS eprom might be too slow for it work.  If it works with a regular sb chip, I suggest you source a double diamond SB chip and use that instead of the SB10000/SS chip combo.

Thanks Rick. I'll have to try that as soon as I can get to where the machine is. the existing chip combination should work though since it came out of a casino in AZ.

Most of my machines are from a casino in az and i have all kinds of problems with the software. However i have never seen a no disp error caused by an ss chip. Its normally the display, bill acceptor, harnes damage, or mpu. If it is a software conflict I would think it would be the sg chips not an ss.

Turned out to be a bad vfd driver board. Now the machine powers up fine but the MEI bill validator takes the bill in and spits it back out. Switched cash cans and stick got the same result. Everything seems to be working the way it's supposed to work. Bill validator has a solid green light.

The vfd displays closure MB so tried opening and closing the door a few times to try and clear that. The vfd display cycles through game over then insert coin then play 3 coins then restart and Closure MB. I put a 20 in the bill validator and it accepts it and then spits it back out. I'm stumped. Any help?

What denom bill did you try? I've seen some MEI aceptors not setup to accept $1.00 bills.. There is a coupon you can print out to set your MEI.. See the attached document.. Did the MEI work before?

I used a 20. Not sure if it worked before. The machine came out of a casino in Arizona. The validator does have a solid green light

Amechanic...Thanks for that bit of info. I tried a 10 and it worked! I'll have to try printing out the coupon and adjusting what the validator accepts as soon as I get home.

I had to use that coupon on a couple MEI aceptors in two Bally Alphas I bought. They wouldn't accept singles till I ran that coupon/ticket on them. Make sure to cut straight and I used a #2 pencil
