S2000 with 1270 issues
« on: April 22, 2017, 05:48:16 PM »
I picked up a new machine with enhanced board today that was giving main battery low error and the BV was not powering up. I popped a new battery in, went through the normal sequence and everything booted up great. So, now I'm just down to the BV issue, right? I shut the machine down and started checking wires and connectors, all seemed to look ok. However, now when I fire it up I get no display other than a quick, very dim flash on the VFD saying "netplex link is down". I can't imagine that it's something I did just checking connections. Anyone had this issue?
Thanks,
Ian

I changed out the power supply, no change. I popped in a tested power distribution unit and everything fired up. Still no BV. Shut it down, slid in another BV, now I'm back to the dim blinking error. :banghead:

Have you done the Varta removal mod or does it still have it installed?

I forgot to mention that. Yes, per your instructions, U16 and the Varta have been removed.

Clean the board in that area make sure there is no splatter or flux left on the board.  Also make sure the board is seated good when you slide it in place into the mother board.
Check for bent pins and reseat door I/O cards.

Looks like I've got a bad board. DS1 is popped and C32 has been knocked off. Bummer....

It still doesn't explain the BV not powering up. That'll be another topic, I guess. No spare 1270 right now.

DS1 kinda looks like that on my boards not enough resolution to see in the picture and C32 is almost too tiny to see on my board. My eyes aren't like they used to be when I was younger

Yes, C32 is a lost cause. I could never solder it back on. I have a source local to me where I can pick up a 1270. I'm also picking up another machine tomorrow that has one. I could do a swap. I'll report back once I get it home. Thanks Rich.

I brought the other machine home and tested that the MPU was workling. Swapped software and popped it in. Everything is booting as it should (confirming bad MPU) but still no BV. I guess I'll start another thread...
