Bally Mastercom 350
« on: July 21, 2016, 10:08:09 AM »
Hi, does anyone know how or if a mastercom 350 can be programed at home to display a scrolling message?
Thanks, Jim

It is possible to do it at home if you have the download program to do it. You have to copy the original messages.csv file, edit the greeting within the file, (use notepad for this) then download the edited file back into the mastercomm and overwrite the original.

I plugged it in and it booted up and there is no message at all. I'm guessing it was erased when it left the casino?

I have not seen the 350s but the 250s have an eeprom that is on the board that most casinos remove. If you have no message at all I would expect that to be the case.
Post a picture of the board in your 350.

I have a 350 in my parts stash Rich, and I could have sworn that it didn't have a removable EPROM like the 250.  My 350 has a message on it from the casino, but I assumed that the unit would have to to be flashed via some other method.

I can check my 350 as well and post a photo later tonight if necessary.

No EPROM or EEPROM, just a guess that it is a live feed or flashed through one of the ports. I purchased a 250 with an EPROM and I will see if I can change the binary code from another post here. If you think of a way to program the 350 from a computer, would be a great thing to do!

The MC350 is programmed by either the Bally Download Manager, or an SD card preprogrammed with the information required for the individual property. There are 5 files that need to be copied into the MC350 in order for it to operate. BSP, GMU1501E, OPT1501E, CARD FORMAT.CONFIG, and MESSAGES.CSV. The easiest way of programming is with the SD card, much easier than the download manager. The opt1501e, cardformat.config, and messages.csv files can be edited to conform to the requirements of the property. Inside the messages.csv file is an option for displayed greetings. It can be set to anything you want it to scroll on the display. It then just needs to be downloaded into the MC350 and overwrite the original file.

So without the original SD card (mine is missing)sounds like would be complicated for a home enthusiast to program.

It might be a little too difficult for home, we ended up having to call bally in to do ours.

Can you post the contents of the messages.csv file?  You can remove any proprietary information, just enough get the format of the file.
Any of the other files too?
