Is it worth it?
« on: November 30, 2016, 08:39:35 AM »
I have the opportunity to buy a Nutt and Muddle Jubilee MK 12. I Have not looked at it yet but the guy selling it says it is partially functional. If you put in your dime the reels will spin but he said it is missing the payout mechanism. He wants $50 for it? Should i pick it up or should I pass? What should I look for and or ask about when I go to look at it . The pictures below are the ones he provided to me taken last night.
Give me your thoughts.
Thanks
Zach

Depends on what you think your time is worth restoring it and if you have a sentimental tie to that particular machine.

To me it looks like something for the city landfill.  To others, it might be gold.

Thanks,
Jason

you know, for just a little more money you can get a used IGT S+ that is a lot more reliable, has a ton more parts available on the used parts market and you'll have many more people to help with any repair support you might need. Buying an obscure model of slot machine and then hoping to get it running is not a trivial task. NLG is a helpful place but not everything can be fixed from long distance, and there are not even that many people experienced with that machine who would want the headache of trying to help you with it. And if you have to start replacing missing assemblies in the machine you are going to spend a lot more money than your initial cost. Not a good deal.

just my opinion.....

Thank you all for the input. I did end up buying it it doesn't look half bad when I cleaned off the dust. Call me crazy but I like the looks of this style of machine. I am going to repaint the top and install some new lights in it just to light it up. My plan is to just put a tube in there that feeds the coins straight through to the tray. It takes out some of the excitement of winning but i still enjoy putting the coins in and watching the reels spin. Maybe some day ill come across the parts i need or maybe i wont.
Thanks
Zach

As long as you are happy with it that is the important thing. When we get a request for an opinion on this or that machine we go by our experience and the trouble other owners may have had with that model or brand. It doesn't always mean the machine is no good, just that it may be more trouble to get it working than a different model would be, especially for someone that may not have a lot of slot machine experience to draw upon. But in the end if you like the machine and enjoy tinkering with it then it can be a good buy for you. There are lots of non-working machines that are lit up and looking pretty, they are decorating game rooms everywhere.

Slot machines get taken apart and parts sold from it all the time, so keep your eye out for whatever you need on that machine. And you can post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the classified section here on NLG stating what you are looking for. Contact the moderator of that section to find out how that WTB ad process works.
