1270 board varta battery
« on: August 30, 2015, 07:10:39 AM »
On the 1270 board simply remove the regulator at location U16 and the Varta battery. Suggested to just clip the legs on the U16 regulator and carefully remove.
DO NOT INSTALL any jumpers!!!

This is all you need to do on a 1270 board in a S2000 to permanently remove the Varta battery.

On GK 044W boards equipped with the Varta battery I've removed the regulator (U24) and then the board will boot fine without the battery.  U16 is the same regulator on S2000 1270 enhanced boards, but I don't have a S2000 equipped with one to test it.

U16 can be removed for it to work without the Varta battery.

So, am I to understand that we can convert from 500 series to 1270? Most of my machines are visions.

You can, it requires a 3 board set for the conversion, but it can be done. You'll need the MPU, motherboard and legacy adapter board.

Hi,  I just wanted to confirm for this 1270 board I have that I can 1) remove the Varta battery and then 2) remove the transistor at location U16 as shown.

If true, would I take the board out and off of the housing to remove it, or is there a preferred method to possibly break the legs and pull it off?   Just trying to understand the best method with minimal potential damage to other parts.  Thanks.

Least potential damage is always to desolder the green battery and I don't think you can do it without removing the board from the frame. As far as U16, I think a person could probably cut the legs and not actually have to desolder it. A dremel tool with a cutoff wheel might work on both but then you're throwing metal dust all over the board

Yes remove the board to desolder the green battery. What I do when removing U16 is take a pair of small pointy cutters and carefully just cut the 3 legs and bend the U16 up and the other side will break right off.

I desolder the battery and clip the legs on U16 with a small flush cutting pliers.

I have been charging my battery for the last 6 months until I found this fix.
The hardest part was finding the U16 component.

Hey peeps!

I can't thank you enough for this discovery! But makes me wonder ... Why is the green Varta there for?  :Scratch-Head:

Our machines run 24/7. What would happen if I took out the Varta and the U16 transistor, and then turn machine off and back on?

Thanks. I'm so glad I found this forum, I thought I know something but I see I don't really... I bow to you guys  :hail:

Thanks.
BR
Dan.
