« on: December 11, 2016, 06:47:59 AM »
Hello. I found my 6 pin molex to the motherboard has a burn mark on the connection. What I have to do to change the burnt connections?  :Please_Post_Pictures_2clr:

I would try to clean it first. Something lightly abrasive. The pin and inside the connector too. Oxidation or looseness can cause this. A little cleaning might do it. And easier than changing a pin where you are.

The last time I did one, I sprayed it with electric contact cleaner and kind of cleaned it out with something small like a pipe cleaner. Sometimes you can spray them and plug and unplug them a few times to clean them off. I don't know what you have but look around for something small enough to clean them.

If you can't get to it well enough, then you may need to remove it from the Molex connector. The black spot is from heat. If you can clean the inside of the connector without removing it, that's what I'd do. If you do remove it, try pinching the connection a little tighter. Or if it looks really bad then replace it.

Also some of the vendors on here sell the entire plug as a pig tail. Just splice the wires and you're done. Rudy's Deals (on the home page) used to sell them.

One sure way to correct the problem forever is to cut the wires off the plug one by one and solder them on. The reason is because of heat as shaggy mentioned. I have done this in the past and you will not have that problem due to bad connection.

« Reply #10 on: December 12, 2016, 10:55:30 AM »
I wondering what type contact socket I need to change out the damage on my 6 pin molex to motherboard. I found this type on ebay:
1. Contact socket, 20-18 AWG crimp MPN: 85-20-112 molex
2. Contact socket, 26-22 AWG crimp MPN: 08-50-0185 molex. How its the right type contact socket?

You have a early model splus.
That plug is hard wired into it
You would have to cut and solder one back on

I dont know your experience... but if your asking how to replace that connector, you might be kinda new to this. Can you let me know what makes you believe that it needs to be replaced? What did you check? If this really needs to be replaced, I will PM you and you can call me and I will walk you through the process. Nothing big at all...
