Bettor Slots TITO Ethernet issues
« on: December 17, 2016, 02:02:46 PM »
If you are having issues with connecting your Bettor Slots TITO deluxe board to your network. Never fear there is a solution. Its not your network that is the problem.

The hardware that is used on the TITO board is development hardware Chinese open source hardware. Means .. its not expensive or quality.
There is a specific issue with the Ethernet shield for the Arduino its the part labeled HanRun - specifically the 16/02 boards

The issue is that there is improper bias on the Ethernet wires. also a SMD component that was placed on the boards 511(resistor network) was the wrong value. This causes horrific compatibility with quality network gear.

There is a quick fix to this all! Option 1 the cheapest and quickest.

Get 2 1/8th watt 100ohm resistors and solder them across pins 1,2 and 3,4 (pins number is on the attached image NOT the RJ45 common numbering)
basically just replicate the attached photo and your problems go away.

Option 2
take the whole thing apart and buy a higher quality hanrun Ethernet adapter shield, I just tried with the 12/11 marked version and its ok the resistor network on this board is 510 if your nerdy. it neds to be a "W5100 Ethernet shield" and be warned a lot of them likely have the same issue.

Option 3
buy a cheap Hub (they dont exist any more) one that is so cheap its built on the same quality hardware. but your luck will vary, also you could have luck just using a very long ethernet cable

Option 4
PM me I might be able to modify the product for you, reminder I break any warranty

Option 5
see if the manufacture has a fix or will correct it for you (could be option 1 for you since these all basically void the warranty)

I have discussed the issues at length with Jim - Jim is a great sales person and customer support. However I was left with no options but to fix the issue myself.. which brings us to this post.

if you are looking for a "plug and play" option I found this item to not have the technical error the supplied card has.

removed part to purchase as it may have other issues. (so far only confirmed working a part with 12/11 printing on the card) I dont have a source for that yet.. tested with a part 16/10 and its having issues with the CFLASH reader troubleshooting that

one note if you do the resistor mod to the original cards, setting to 100MB/half duplex seems most stable if your network equipment support that.

additionally to be clear Jim did offer to resolve my issue via a return or exchange. I wanted to resolve the root cause of the issue which is why this thread was created to document for others who want to fix the root issue.

If your in question just contact Bettor/Jim directly before you make a decision they may have more options if your having issues with your network connectivity.

I don't know if this is related to the same issue, but anytime I first power-up the TITO I have to press the network reset button that is on the TITO board before it will talk to the network.  The instant I press that button everything is fine and remains so until the TITO is powered down.

sadly this is also related to the hardware chosen to build the product with. here is a suggested solution..

http://tigawd.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/arduino-uno-clone-and-w5100-ethernet.html

or here is a simpler method https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZBeprOqC3w I did this with success because it was a cap I had sitting in a pile in front of me, used a 500nf the board will connect at power up with no issues now as well. I had one board that I didnt realize had this issue  (I never power mine off so didnt know it had the problem)

Wow, thanks!  I'm glad I posted that, I'll do the hack suggested in the video.

This is an old topic but I have a TITO Deluxes that sometimes just lose network and what ever I do (reset, unplug, etc)  it wont fix the problem unless I change Micro SD cards with another. SO I guess my question is, is the SD card getting corrupt?

The post was made with hardware on an Arduino platform and so the Ethernet hat used had some issues.
I don’t recall a SD card as part of it?

I'm going to try and put the card in the PC and change the IP address and see if that helps. The board seems to be fine as another card works fine. Keep you posted.

If you're still having problems please take a look at the Arduino TITO and Player Tracking project; https://github.com/marcrdavis/ArduinoTITO-PlayerTracking

This project is compatible with the BettorSlots hardware and is still being supported. Check the documentation for details.
