Bally's 809-E
« on: November 22, 2016, 07:11:21 AM »
Hey everyone, quick question I keep coming across these non-working Bally's for cheap prices (because they don't work) in hopes of getting them up and running. This guy is selling this Bally's 809-E4 nickel machine it's a nice looking machine and semi-works only because he says that one of the electronic boards had a battery leak and he removed the battery and did nothing else. So is it something to look into for a 100 bucks again my luck hasn't been that good in getting them up and running. Jon has been awesome giving me help as well as David, but is this another cart away someone's garbage or a possible fix to replace the battery.

The pic does not look like an 809 ... if it has a circuit board, its either an e1000 or e2000 series machine. If this machine has a board in it, look to see if there is a ram board attached to it ( daughter board with battery) if so, the machine is a e1000 series. The newer e2000 has got rid of that board and the rams have been incorporated into the newer board. The e1000 machines typically have issus with that ram board, broken pins causing bad connections. I have had one for over 6 months and have given up on it until I can send the boards off to someone with the proper testing equipment.
Hope this helps ... show us the inside of the machine if you can. Might just be a replacement cabinet or someone replaced the ID plate to make it look like an older machine to get around the law restrictions.

Also.... on the e1000 machines the battery is basically used to retain bookeeping memory. Good chance it is a E 1224 model

That's most likely a E1000. Look closely at the ram board on the MPU for acid damage to the ram board and to its connector. If the pin header are bad those can be replaced. If the small ram boards damage then I might say away just because those ram boards are hard to find.

It is missing the ram board on the CPU .... stay away is a good choice unless he will take 10$ just to have you haul it off. Then you can strip it down and sell the parts that are usable.

Dave,  The Ram boards there. The battery has been removed. The pin header closest to the battery has green corrosion but the boards traces look good and un damaged. The machine actually looks clean inside. I would take a chance on it. That edge connector can be replaced.

Time for me to get glasses. All I saw was the connectors and by the angle, it just looked like it was missing. Thanks for the update, I enlarged it and there it was. But ... it is a handful if you dont have a working machine to test boards out.... I am staying with the EMs unless I get a real bargan on a E machine. Still am leary. Only a few people I know are excellent at them ... Barry Fox and a person at NLG.

glasses may be needed by others as well - look to the left of picture 1 of the mpu - the board has massive acid damage.  everyone seems to be looking at the ram board - widen your horizens - the board is toast.

Thanks GOS. I stand corrected. I didn't look at the lower corner of that board.

I was warned by several people when I got the EM bug to stay away from the E games.  I took heed.  Now for a few bucks the glass and many of the parts could be used on an older machine.  If you have the space it might be a good donor piece.

My 2 cents
