Got the reel glass out. Must of been in there a good 40 - 50 years.
Took a good 45 minutes to loosen it up. The black padding was all the way around the frame.
It turned in to a hardened adhesive.
Lost all the paint where it was stuck.
Will need a new glass eventually.
But for now touched up the paint and replaced the the paper 25c.

Sounds good, glad its working hope it continues.

I've wondered if / how coils get affected by dirty switches and beau plugs.  You know how lites dim get bright then dim again go out back dim.  My guess is coils would be less strong.  Anyways, take it easy.

Thanks,

Thinking the lack of fresh grease and the connections between
the coil and transform was the problem.
Going to grease all points required now that the machine is running.
Just had oil on everything to allow any dirt and grime to flow out.

Okay, Got the exterior of the LB cleaned up.
Also re-cleaned contacts on the coin relay switch unit, as the "insert coin" light was intermittent.
Winner paid light working 90% of the time. Suspect a weak signal in the circuit, contacts or beau plug.
Replaced the lock with one from "Kingsley Security" on Amazon $8.00. Works really good except for the fact
that the tail shaft is 1/16 to long. I opted to add a spacer between the cam linkage and the lock it self instead of grinding.
Used the original half nut, looks totally original.
Not sure if I mentioned, had to soak the reel glass out of the door frame with BP blaster. The rubber was melted to the glass and the frame.
Lost some paint, but got it touched up pretty good.

When you re grease ... I would suggest Lubriplate. I find it doesn't dry up and get hard as fast as lithium grease.

Thanks Dave,

Is there a certain brand or just fine Lubriplate?
Been using Vaseline as recommended in the Bally book I have.
Seems to work pretty good.

That is good too. I use the food quality Lubriplate ... found this lube years ago. The operators used it on the wiper and selection disks on the jukeboxes. Of which I was one of back in the early 80s or late 70s. You dont need much. I also use just a very very small amount on my finger and wipe the wiper boards. This helps the selectors to glide across the buttons. Dont use much there.

Hello Dave,

Would you be so kind to post a photo of the product your using.
Seems to be a large variety out there.

Thanks
Dave

Everyone has their favorite.  Here's what I've been using.   It was recommend in a post on either this or old site.   Clear like vasoline but is a grease for metal parts.  Doesn't seem to harden and not messy.   Available at most hardware stores, found at Ace.

Okay, the old Ireland LowBoy is running pretty good. Its smoothed out a lot just by playing everyday.
The WINNER PAID light only stays on 1 out of 10 win. Not like before it barely went off.
Took the Vaseline off the payout step up reset mechanism and applied some Lubriplate. (Had a can that is probably 50 years old and still good.)
Seems to have helped the winner paid light situation.
Made a new reel glass and did two modifications. See if you can spot them.
Going to redo the machine top feature glass and add a jackpot light in the next few weeks.
Will post when finished.
So topic solved for now.

Nice job... :applause:  I see the addition of "Machine" on the left legend plate and the right one the graphics have been color restored. Any others I missed... I can blame on old age...

Dave,

I'll give it up on Sunday, if not found by then.
And thanks for the compliment.

Looks real nice.   You always do a great job.

On the right side "Jackpots" is above "pays on center line".

Good eye Jim,
Made more sense to me to have it below Jackpots.
I guess either way reads okay.

Nice work on the glass and machine David, did you use mirrored glass or is that plexi?

Used 3/16 glass, cut a mask of black vinyl then applied the layers starting with the chrome first and working backwards. Similar to the silkscreening process. The only problem is the ink saturation on my little Canon printer. Can't quite get the intensity, most likely will have to farm out.
Next time you are out this way stop by the shop. We can go over the process as you have access to a higher quality printing than I.
