The battery could have been old and weak.
Allways check the date and check with a volt
meter to make sure the battery is fully charged.

If it continues then you may have a main board issue.

The battery should last a lot longer than that.

The battery is usually only for keeping the cmos ram chip alive when the machine is powered off. I'd try replacing the battery again. If that new battery dies quickly then look at the cmos ram chip on your mpu board, if it is in a socket it is pretty easy to replace. You can post a photo of your mpu board if you aren't sure which chip is the cmos ram chip.

Did you remove the board from the metal tray to replace the battery, clean out the solder from the holes, put the new battery in and solder it, or just heat up  the holes and shove another battery lead(s) into the holes?
If you did the latter, and I'm not saying you did, then you broke a small hair thin trace under the board that connects the battery to the RAMs.

A CR2032 does not have the current handling capability of the 1/2AA 3.6V battery the board was designed for.
Maybe that is the problem because on the 5500 another chip besides the RAM chips are powered by the battery voltage.

Please post two clear pictures of your MPU where the battery is, front side and back side. This will greatly help those helping you.

 :Scratch-Head:

You need the battery size 1/2 AA.. It's the 1/2 the length of a AA battery, but with solder leads on both ends.. They are 3.6V compared to the 2032 that is only a little over 3V..

Yea that's not correct..   You need the correct battery, 1/2 AA size. They do make a battery holder for the 1/2 AA size battery that you. An solder right to the board, or I have seen people use a battery holder for 2 standard AA battery's. That gives you the 3+ volts you need for that game. Plus remove the board from the tray when doing the job to make sure your connection goes through the boards connection point. The 2032 battery is not the correct voltage. That's why it died so quick.

Depending on the solder holes in your circuit board you probably need to use one of these styles of 1/2 AA 3.6 volt batteries. There are different companies that make them so their appearance (color) and part number varies. Also, you could solder in a 1/2 AA battery holder and then easily replace the battery when needed. There may be places in your area that will do the soldering for you, like a Batteries Plus type of store. These type of batteries cost more than the CRxxxx coin style batteries like you have rigged on there now,  but these have much more energy stored inside so they last a lot longer. And these 1/2 AA batteries are 3.6 volts, the coin style batteries are 3.0 volts so they start out at a lower voltage.

The two 6" antennas from the board to the battery to pick up any stray EMI..... AGGH!

Hi Everyone,
So can i use the 2 wires i have already solder to the board for the new holder? Or does it have to be solder right to the board, I don't know how to solder and i'm afraid i will ruin the board. Also does anyone have a link to purchase the battery holder and battery?
Thanks

If your not good soldering, then I would find a battery store near you and have them do the replacement. They can install a battery holder for a 1/2 AA Battery. That way you can just change the battery your self next time. Better to pay a few dollars for the fix, then big money for a new board.
