Bally ESeries blows fuse
« on: February 24, 2018, 03:26:35 PM »
i gave a Bally ESeries slot machine, I took the reels apart a few weeks ago and cleaned them. It worked great until today. I started getting a tilt code 43 or 41. I took the reels out looked to make sure I didn't leave anything loose. Played it a few times worked great. I hit a is your and it flagged a code for the hopper. I added   Some coins hit the reset button and it blew the wall fuse.
I I disconnect the hopper control board the fuse does not blow, plug in the board I see a spark and it pops the fuse.
I looked over the wires, I do not see any shorting out.
I disconnected the switches still blows.
Any ideas?

the hopper control board has shorted (obviously) you may have dropped a coin in behind the board when you loaded the coins.  These boards do fail - i offer a replacement board on my ebay store FOXSSLOT1

I agree, check for a stray coin around the hopper board. Those replacement hoppers are nice. I have a couple of them.

I had the board out looking fir burn marks so I do not think there is a coin there. The motor does spin by hand and was irking prior to the fuse blowing.
I don't mind buying a board, I just don't want to fry it when I plug it in.

I took the board out today. Pin #8 from the left is melted, arched. I did this plugging the board in with the machine powered up. I was trying to pinpoint the short , I had several things disconnected and was plugging them in one at a time until the fuse blew, thus us the only one to do it. I don't mind buying a new board I just don't want to fry it on power up.
Any ideas?

You never want to plug boards in when the power is on! Good way to damage them.. You should install them one at a time, then apply power to the machine.

By looking at your board picture I can see that Q3 the Mac15 Triac was replaced at sometime before. My bet is that has gone bad again. The 2 large diodes do go bad too. Sound like the hopper board has a short causing the fuse to blow.

Plugging them in with power was not smart on my part. I ohm checked the wire harness on the hopper, I did not find any short to grounds. I could not understand why the hopper fuse did not blow.... IT HAD A 5 amp slo blow in there.
I got brave and put the complete hopper from my 10 cent machine in
It has to be the board
