« on: December 16, 2015, 10:50:06 AM »
I have a fortune II drop in video poker that won't go into self test mode the screen says call attendant and CMOS on the left bottom corner. the machine was working fine, last time I had a problem all I did was a Ram reset but that's not working now any help or thoughts would be appreciated

I'm not too familiar with the Fortune II machines but have you checked the battery on the mpu board, make sure it isn't dead or going bad? That battery keeps the CMOS ram data intact. On some machines the battery level is monitored and will cause an error when it gets too low in voltage. Usually they are about 3.6vdc when new. It may be a cylinder type (similar to an AA battery) or it may be coin shaped like a quarter.

That may be a bad CMOS ram chip, but someone here more familiar with Fortune II can give a better opinion. If you look at your mpu board is the CMOS ram in sockets?

There's a separate chip on the board where the ramp is that has a bunch of corrosion on it I'll take a picture here but yes the ram is a chip

Yikes - that doesn't look good. Maybe you can try cleaning it and the area, also inspect closely on both sides of the ram board, including any pins & connectors. Try to clean between the ic legs also. Is that stuff from a battery that leaked?

I don't have the drawings for your mpu board, and I can't read the part number on the top of the chips, but I'll take a shot at saying the CMOS RAM chip is the larger chip located near the battery, and the other smaller chip is an ordinary logic gate that is part of the CMOS RAM circuitry. Unless someone more familiar with the Fortune II says otherwise I'd be inclined to remove that CMOS piggy-back board and clean it well, including the pins that connect it to the main mpu logic board. Also I'd make sure the battery is good, then I'd reinstall it and see what happens.

Cleaned it all up put it all back together still no change.  I'm going to have to just start back at square one test the switch  for continuity and backtrack everything . it just seems to me like every time I get something to work on I have a problem  that nobody else has seen. Still appreciate all the comments and helpful tips I'll keep knocking away at it
