Coin in problem with a S+, rejecting coins
« on: March 20, 2017, 08:39:44 PM »
I have a S+ machine that's giving me fits. It sometimes will accept coins, then it just stops and they fall back into the coin tray? I have swapped the comparitor, the coin optics, and all the coin in wiring from the door plug to the optic, comparitor and coin handling solenoid.
This machine came in as a repair/service, new battery etc. I found the original comparitor had a burnt resistor on the board, and comparitor pigtail plug only had a 3 pin plug, not the 6 pin. (See pics).. I figured the comparitor went bad due to the wrong wiring to the comparitor. I replaced the comparitor and the comparitor wiring to the correct 6 pin plug. It started to play and accept coin for about 15-20 coins, then started rejecting the coin again? I can put credits on the machine by pushing the white button on the optics, but it won't allow coins to give credits? This is my first S+ machine I've messed with. Am I missing something? The power plug on the mother boards not burnt. There is no bill acceptor, it's long gone..

I forgot to ask, if the wrong comparitor wiring and plug cause the burnt resistor on the comparitor board, could it have damaged the MPU?

Gary,  you should fix the bottom pin of the connector, I see it is bent and not extended out to mate with the push in connector, this is a ground for the CC-16, so it could be causing your intermittent problem with that CC-16.
Does this machine have a drop down belly door?  if so, you can remove the entire CC-16 chassis and drop it down and close the main door and drop coins into the CC-16 and observe what is happening!. you will be able to see if the LED is coming on (indicating power and the lock out is not engaged).

the only purpose of the CC-16 is to accept the coin. that's its only function in life, if the coin is being rejected by the CC-16 and returned to the coin tray, then the problem is with the CC-16. this is only true if the LED is on, indicating that the unit is getting power.

the coin optics have nothing to do with coin acceptance, there function is to determine if the coin presented to them is the right width(break the three beams)and send that information to the cpu to establish a credit.

the only true way to see what is going on is to get a visual, if no drop down door, the other method is to make a door optic extender so you can have the door open and observe what is happening in regards to the power LED. the extender is nothing else but a cable with two plugs on it, one to plug into the door optic connector and the other plug to plug the optic into it, then line up the optic with the cabinet receiver so you are fooling the machine to think the door is actually closed.

Jim... The comparitor board pictured is no longer be used. I have tried a different coin comparitor and have swapped the comparitor power cord out with a 6 pin style plug, (see pic).. The comparitor that was not working in this machine does work in my S+ Haywire that's here. Just remember I am not using the burnt board comparitor but a replacement I've bought and tested.
I like the idea about dropping the belly glass door. If I don't see the light on the comparitor lite, then where would I turn next?
