S+ Top Candle light dimly lit on Triple Diamond
« on: November 27, 2017, 01:50:34 PM »

Top light on the candle stays dimly light.  I am sometimes able to get it to turn off by shutting everything down and re-seating the MPU but then it will come back on again randomly.  Not sure why, maybe a stray voltage leading to it.  Pressing the Change light makes the light brighter so its receiving the correct signal from the change button to illuminate.

I checked the socket clips and didn't see any scorch marks so not sure if its a program issue or just a faulty wire voltage.

Using game chip of 4786.

Any Ideas?

Brian

Welcome to NLG. Maybe there is a slight ground going to the top candle light. Maybe try removing it and looking for a frayed wire.

Probably a dumb question, but it's an incandescent bulb in there, right, not an LED? Since LEDs require such little power to operate, I've seen them in some pinball games where they're dimly lit when they're not supposed to be on.

Yup, its just a regular incandescent bulb. Getting 4.5 volts when it’s dimly lit and 7.15 volts when bright. I tightened up the green grounding wire and no impact.

its only one wire, determine which one it is, trace it back to the mother board, make sure no stay coins underneath the motherboard. check around the row of transistors near one of the connectors, see if there is any damage to any of them or black burn marks.  that is a common problem where as the wire contacts move inside the candle base and short out that line which usually takes out the transistor.
