What's your Electric Bill?????????????
« on: December 10, 2017, 06:33:58 PM »
I'm curious as to what you guys pay for electric and gas?

I live in the north east with a small 3000sf house including the basement with 11 machines.   I usually keep 3-4 on all the time rotating them.

I have all my machines on a UPS and can monitor the wattage drawn and it is NEVER over 500 watts for the machines on.  In fact if every machine is on my watts used per hour is less than 1500.

I'm ranting because all the lighting in my house is LED - my kitchen, dining room and living room AND 3 bed rooms would be over 1500 watts just for lighting -  now every light in my house can be on full blast for under 300 wats.

WTF - why such a high bill -  and natural gas has been basically off due to the warm weather?

Don't want to  start a political  pissing match but when Obama started the energy issue with  getting rid of fluorescent  and incadescent, which was a good thing, there was a energy surcharge  added to our electric  bills to pay  for  this initiative.  I believe  it was going to  go up in intervals  for  several  years.  Why do  we  have  pay more for  less  energy  use? I wonder how many political insiders  invested into this LED bulb company's/technology?

They don't like you?!- :Tongue_Out: .  I have about the same SQ. Footage--BUT I Never leave slots on and it gets cold here also.  Just snowed again here the other day. Our rig is totally electric.  Average bill is around 200 bucks or less-depends on seasons. Go Solar--I am.

I live in the NW and between gas and electric I pay around 200 during the winter with the house 70 or warmer always. We warned everyone their bills would go up when you started relying more on green energy. By the way, I may work at a power plant, but don't get an employee discount

3000sq ft is small?  I live in a matchbox then LOL.  We have one of the highest rates in the midwest in MI at about 17c a Kwh including taxes.  In order to compare your bill with someone else you have to know the energy consumption (Kwh) and the rate per Kwh to make a comparison.  I normally consume between 600 and 700Kwh per month which comes out to ~ $100 -$120 month.   The state requires that we get 10% of our power from renewable sources, it's increasing to 15% soon, along with our rates again too probably. :censored:   Our rates have at least doubled in the last decade.  Paying more and using less...pisses me off too.

You would think with the extra money they get from increased rates that they could at least keep the lines clear.  This little bastard of a bug called an emerald ash borer has killed most all the ash trees in the area. Just devastated them.   Many of them are standing, until they rot enough or the wind is strong enough to blow them down.  When they do go everyone of them will find a power line to take out with it.  Zap...there goes the power, usually mine.  :banghead: :banghead:    This year has been pretty mild, only 4 outages so far.  Usually it's double that.   Then generator I bought a 10 or so years ago was one of the best investments I ever made.  Especially when it goes out and doesn't come back for 3 or 4 days in the middle of the winter.

I converted all of my lighting to LED a few years ago when the bulbs were about $10ea.  That's how much I hate those pricks that provide our power.  (no offense cowboygames).  My furnace uses propane so I don't have a combined gas and electric bill like many people who have natural gas do.  My largest power consuming appliances are my electric water heater and my clothes dryer.  Both use ~4500w when running.  Below that would be my well pump (never measured it's consumption) and my central A/C (3000w nominal) unit.  We don't need to run the AC too often or too long in the summer.  I use it mainly to get rid of the humidity on humid days.

I converted all my slots to LED lighting too, with the exception of a couple of S+ machines that I haven't got to yet.  I keep them off most of the time if I'm not using them.  Bally Alpha machines are my biggest power hogs, they use over 200w, probably the 10,000 fans that sound like a tornado when you power it up uses most of it.  I can run three s2000's for the amount of energy one S9000 uses.

Ok my rant is over..  Not sure that I feel any better.  Did I mention that I hate my power company?... :censored: bastards!

I live about 5 miles from 2 DTE Power plants. You would think that we wouldn't have power outages, but this year so far I've had to run my generator two time. I can say that my power bill has dropped by about 30-35% over last years bills. My son moved out and to Texas. He would leave his gaming computer on 24/7 with his 3 monitors. Then the ceiling fan ran all the time too. My electric bill last month was around $80.00, and my natural gas. I'll was around $55.00. That's keeping the house at 70 during the day and letting drop to 66 at night. House warms up about 30 before the wife get up at 645am. I too have converted about 90/95% of my house to LED bulbs. The others are still fluorescents. I feel the same way, we do or best to cut our energy usage, only to see my bill keep climbing over the past few years. What kills me here in this small town of Marine City, MI is my water bill. We pull our water from the river, but my water bill on of the highest in the state. We get billed every 3 months for water and sewage, plus all the BS sir charges and taxes. My last bill in Oct., was $240!!! That's just for 3 people. FYI my house is around 1800 sq feet on a crawl space.

3,300 sq foot home.  3 people, slots are off unless used.  All lighting is leds.  2 story house with 2 HVAC units. 2 fridges, electric range, water heater, sprinkler pump (runs 20 mins every 3 days).  South florida weather, A/C on average of 15 hours a day.  I pay $450 on average.

LVS and WYNN were handed "large" infrastructure bills when they wanted to exit the Nevada power grid and start generating all of their own electrical power.
The rationale is that Nevada Power built the grid a certain size based on power draw and companies who no wished to cut the cord would have to pay for their portion of the infrastructure that would have been clawed back over xx years.

I suspect the same thing is going on with Lower power draws due to LED etc.

We make the power, we have nothing to do with the grid or grid maintanance, whole different department and/or company. They tell us what they need and we try to put it out there. Take the subsidies away from wind and solar and you'll see what a good deal those aren't. Not to rub salt in it, but you're subsidising that on top of your higher bills also

Here is the quote from the article
http://www.elp.com/articles/2016/05/las-vegas-casinos-move-to-leave-nv-energy-power-grid.html

"Regulators say the casino companies' departures could leave the broader NV Energy customer base stuck with the bill for infrastructure that takes decades to pay off, and was built assuming the trio of companies — which account for 7 percent of the utility's customer base — would keep paying into the system."

My conjecture is that if everyone was to replace their lightbulbs with LED lights, and upgrade to energy efficient appliances they would reduce their individual electrical bills by more than 7%, install solar panels and sell power back to the grid and that number more than triples. So why are they penalizing a couple of casino companies that want to do something different.

My house is 30'x45'

Square footage would be 1,350 square feet right?
But I heat the basement as well (same size as upstairs on the main floor).
I'm guessing (without Googling) that my square footage I'm paying for would be 1,350x2=2,700?

Anyways, this house is near Montreal and the Hydro Electric bill is really cheap compared to the house (same size) in NY.

It's roughly $70cdn per month in Canada versus Niagara Mohawk power Co.'s $140usd in New York.

$140usd is like $200cdn!!

This is one of the reasons I moved back north of the 49th parallel.  :rotfl:

Sounds like electric is pretty expensive for you guys.
Even though mine isn't high, I installed some solar panels on the garage.
All my power tools use the batteries when I do projects.
The worst power guzzler I have really is the pool pump during the warmest summer months.
