Greetings everyone,

I'm new to the site, as I've been doing some research into a local slot machine that is for sale.

25 cents slot machine. Needs work. Coin return needs fixing. Had a lot of fun with the slot machine. Just needs someone with a little knowledge of machines to fix it.

Manufacture date: 3/89

They are asking $200. I can probably talk them down a little, but should I be concerned about buying a S vs. a S+...? I have confidence in my ability to fix "things" if the parts are available.

I would shy away from it. A bill validator is a very nice feature to have. With the date and the look, I think it is a "M" model. Wish it showed a picture of it turned on and the inside.

I think that's an early S+ -- might be an S. Don't think it's an M.

If it's an S+, go for it -- should be easy to fix. If it's an S, I'd be a little more hesitant -- parts for an S (non-plus) are harder to find.

depending where you live you might get a nice s2000 for a few bucks more

Pictures 6 and 7 answer the mystery. It's an IGT S (non-plus).

As buybestslots above was alluding to, picture 4 shows that there's no sample coin in the coin comparator. The machine will not accept coins unless a sample coin is inserted in the comparator so that it knows what coins to accept and reject. The problem could be as simple as that.

I personally would probably shy away from it, but I'm also spoiled by living in a legal state with access to relatively cheap slots.

I'm betting they took ALL the coins out to sell it and it has a dead CMOS battery or something of that nature. It's a $200 gamble on something you may have a very hard time getting parts for if it's more than a battery or sample coin

I would stay away from it also. Finding parts for an S can be difficult, and if you ever want to change the game to some other them, you would be hard pressed to find the software for it.

I'm being told it hasn't been plugged in for about 10 years. They have countered with $150. I might be willing to "gamble" at $100...

A lot of times I hold out on buying a slot and just wait a few days. In most cases, it will still be sitting there and the seller will usually lower their price.
I'd take everyone's advice here and hold off...
Maybe a $100 is ok ... IF they throw in that brass pitcher set!

For $150 or even $125 you might be able to sell the parts to vet your money back if it's not fixable, but you could probably buy a good S2000 series for $400+ and not have to mess around with it. You can always remove the BV and cover the hole, I do

My advice is at 150 or less and not much $ cost to get it-GO for it. It would not be a Big loss if it does not work out but that is why they call it gambling. You would be able to sell parts from it if it does not work out. As a first, No but the price is good for you and convienent evidentally. -Why not-?. You will learn from it and may even come out on top with something you can get working. Just my idea-given what you said. 150 is good but 125 would be even better.

They accepted my offer of $100 (not including the brass pitcher set

), and I pick it up bright and early Saturday morning

I'll let everyone know how it turns out (and beg for parts?).

BTW They paid roughly $700 for it when purchased "back in the day"...
