New S+ Owner, A couple of Questions
« on: March 05, 2014, 10:48:46 AM »
I recently purchased an IGT S+ Double Dollar Machine.  SP 1271 and SS 3233 chips. With help from the forums I have been able to her up and running for the most part.
I replaced Battery, JP reset switch, and bypassed door optics by using a toggle switch that I mounted just below JP reset.
I plan on moving power switch to top of machine behind the lights.
A couple of questions on Coin comparator and Bill Validator

1st: I have a DBV 145 SS 6031 B022.
It is powering up and cycling when machine turns on, but won't accept bills. Will the Set 15 chip work on this?

2nd: The coin comparator. Not sure what kind I have, but seems to be a little different than the kind most found in these forums.
1: don't know voltage has Yellow, Black, and Purple wires
2: what kind it is only thing I can find is sticker with GN(L, maybe)(V or W)0012. Part of sticker is worn away.
The unit is fine and works, but looking to replace with newer one that will handle more denominations, in case I want to switch later.

Set 15 should work fine if you don't have a progressive.
The coin comparitor has a sample coin.
Typically there are two styles. CC16 (quarter and smaller) and CC33 (Dollar and larger).
Even within the CC16 (which is what I think you have)  If you are going to change denominations then you also have to change the coin head and also the hopper wheel and sometimes the coin guides. Ie a nickle is thicker and a dime thinner.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

It Does have a progressive on in, but I have disconnected it, and shut it off via the dip switches on main board.
Thanks for the reply, Set chip on the way.
The machine is a dollar slot
My main concern is voltage for CC

S+ has 24volts, so if it's working correctly, you have a 24 volt ac unit.  If you want to go to a smaller coin, it will be a CC16 and it mounts differently than your large coin comparitor.  You will need new coin head, encoder, comparitor and obviously a different hopper (or pinwheel if you have a pinwheel hopper).

:EmoticonHelp4: Ok....A new problem. I got my set 15 chip today, followed direction that it came with it.
Game:1271
Reel:  3233
was able to set BV on and denom to 100($1.00)
Put back together turn on I get 61, hold test button and get 61-1 close door and turn JP key once.....Nothing it's froze up on 61-1
Restart machine...Same result...Did set chip again...Same. All but BV was working before, now nothing working.
Door Optics are Bypassed, and JP switch does work, made sure BV door switch is closed.
Possible wrong set chip? any ideas would be really helpful

Don't bypass the door optics.  Some SP chips won't let you get past a 61-1 without actual working optics.

Only reason it's bypassed was because of a broken wire, and I was unable to do anything. I'll try a new cab optic just spliced into wire so connection is still intact.  thx

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying, but you likely need to have a standard, working set of door optics to get past your 61-1.  The door optics pulse an open/close signal very rapidly (in the door optics test, it shows up as 10101010101010101010 as it flickers back and forth).  Some SP chips require that exact signal to allow you to get past the 61-1 message, and having the optics bypassed or wired together to simulate the door being open or closed doesn't match that pattern.

I understand what you are saying, I replaced the Battery and was still unable to test out the machine to see what else it may or may not need. I looked around and found the broken wire to the door optic on the cabinet side. I wired in a bypass to allow the game to function.
I spliced into harness wire that goes to optics, I did not cut ends to bypass. It is as simple as unplugging bypass and plug back into optics.
I ordered a new set of optics, should be here in a few days. I will let you know if that solves problem. Thanks

I got another set of optics today, installed lined them up best I could, and...still won't get past 61-1 code. Tried set chip again, still no go.
could it possible be wrong set chip? Game 1271: Reel: 3233,  set 15.  Or am I gonna need to do a reset?  :EmoticonHelp4:

Don't worry about the SET chip right now.  That's just for the bill validator.  Let's get your machine working first, then we can worry about the validator.

To get past a 61 error, do the following:

- Open the door, press and hold the Self Test button for a few seconds.  You'll hear a "ding" if your speaker is working, and the display will switch to 61-1.

- Close and latch the door firmly, ensuring the door optics are lining up correctly.  (Also make sure any other door switches like the bill validator stacker (cash can) door is closed and latched.)

- Turn and release the jackpot reset key once.  The displays should go blank, the reels should spin, and then the machine should be ready to accept a coin for play.

If the 61-1 does not change at all, either your door optics are not lined up, are bad, or there's another door switch open.

OK I did some more fiddling around with door optics, and was finally able to get past the 61-1 code. everything appears to be working fine, including the BV, which needs an upgrade to accept the new bills. :thank_you: for all the help, may need more for BV but that can wait a little lol.

The BV on the S+ can only be upgraded so far.
The basics are that different machines use different protcol codes. You use dip switches on the BV to set which protocol it is speaking. IGT is no longer funding the development of new currency for S+ protocols. So while you might get your BV to work with new currencies for a WMS or Aristocat you will only get older bills working on the S+.
There is a protocol convertor that I sought out but I have not purchased one or tried it. The intent is you can use a S2000 protcol and have it converted to work on the S+ subsequently allowing a BV to work with the newer currencies.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Actually I may not need to upgrade just yet. I ran set chip again and changed denom from $1 to $.05. This way I can use dollars to get 20 credits instead of 1, and still be able to use tokens or dollar coins. Any older currency I run across will be used to feed the machine when it gets low on credits.

Hello again, got a new situation pop up. I noticed BV bezel wasn't seated properly, so I loosened it up put in proper place. Now I have no BV at all, no noise, lights, nothing. I Made adjustment with power off, so I'm pretty sure nothing shorted. checked fuses, they are all good. Not sure where to check power to the unit at. Can it be the black box(not certain what it's called, lol)? Any  :EmoticonHelp4: is appreciated.

And reseat your cash can...BVs are dead in the water if cash can is not seated properly. With power on, BV will cycle when cash can is installed correctly. They get cranky over time, and do not always seat correctly.
