Alpha 2 video topper/super candle with driver board help
« on: December 16, 2015, 01:32:22 PM »
Hi all, I just bought the Bally Alpha 2 15" video topper and super candle and the driver board (PCA212710) to control the candle and sides of topper. I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to connect everything together to make it work.
I know that the video topper connects directly to the CPU VGA port but how do you wire the driver board in to control the candle and led sides of the topper?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm still working on my Alpha 1 to 2 conversion but I began to build my custom monitor case top that will have this topper on it.

Thanks!

The driver board connects to the mpu via USB.   The topper should have a pair of black micro molex connectors coming out of it. It plugs into the driver board.  The plugs are of different sizes.  I try to use the lowest numbered ports, but I don't think it makes any difference.   There's also a molex plug that should be idle unless your cabinet was a mech reel cabinet and had a led bezel controller powered by this same molex.  Otherwise it should just be sitting there on the back not used, probably tied up with a tie wrap.  This is the power to the driver board.  I can post a picture of my connections later on tonight when I get home.

Rick, would you be so kind to post a picture of your connections? I'm pretty sure that I know how to make the connections as it's straight forward but I just want to be positively certain, as you know, one misplaced wire and POOF, magic smoke...

Here is a picture of the board. My setup I just running a Super Candle and not the video topper. Not sure how different the connections are.

To the left of the USB output is where the power goes. Mine is empty as I had to hard wire the power from the backplane to board. If your machine was a mechanical this plug should already be in the machines. The Super Candle is plugged into port 0. You can also use Port 1 (same size port to the right of where mine is plugged into). It doesn't matter. My S9000 the super candle is plugged into Port 1 and the bezel in port 0.

The side lighting of the video topper should go into one of the smaller black ports if I'm not mistaken. Rick will correct me if I'm wrong.
