What the heck is this bulb for, and why is it
« on: January 11, 2017, 11:05:45 PM »
This miniature bulb is on the reel assembly on my Bally 1114. It never worked and I never even thought about changing it out, until tonight, and I've had this machine for over three girlfriends!  :rotfl:
When I removed the bulb I saw it was a B2A (neon 110v) which doesn't seem correct, or is it?

Since it is mounted right by some meters and it runs off 115vac power maybe it is for casino employees reading the meters even if the machine is turned off, but still plugged into wall socket, like if there is a defect in the machine and it has to be switched off but they still want to record the bookkeeping info??

I'll test the voltage at the socket and see what's there. At first it looks like a standard 6.2v (I think) bulb, same as the COIN ACCEPTED and other lamps but the filament is much beefier looking.
I would think someone here must have a Bally EM with one of these in it.

A three girlfriend bulb should NOT be messed with!  I have never seen one either.  I also find that the location of the meters is kind of odd.  You are a much better slot mechanic than I am so I take the if it aint broke dont fix it approach.  Hell with my luck if I changed that bulb the reels would probably spin backwards and I would be electrocuted with the first pull of the handle.

My advice is free and worth every penny

Ra, A+ for best word mechanic.
Looks to be after market add-on. Had a 6 volt bulb just under the middle reel for atmosphere, every time I pulled the reels, got a good reminder on how hot those little bulbs get. The key word here is "Had".
Surely someone will enlighten us.

I just stuck in a 6v bulb and, duh... it lights up. This is just a lamp to illuminate the meters.  :duh:
It's stock as can be I'd think.

Just curious. Which counter is the total in and which is the total out? If the total in is the larger number than the 67% payback seems low.

So after the bulb replacement I spent an hour or so cleaning the glass, replacing some burnt out bulbs in the upper portion, etc.
I go eat and come back in the room later and smell BURNING something! The lights are ALL dim other than the florescent tubes. SHIT!
This is why I don't work on EM's...
Hang on for the counter numbers.
The machine sometimes doesn't pay... this was why I started poking around a little bit but decided to start with simply doing some bulb replacement.
For the last few years it will intermittently pay half what it should or not pay.
After playing it awhile it started to pay correctly once in a while.
I'll stop this here and start a new thread for my wonderful burning problem.
