Title: A three slot touch tone payphone!
Post by: shortrackskater on March 06, 2017, 11:00:17 AM
So I did it again!
This Northern Electric pay phone is sort of a fusion of old technology and really old technology. It's a three slot with a "modern" touch tone button pad. The earliest ones had ten, whereas mine has twelve. I think this was the last year before the big ugly single slots came out.
The eBay seller said it only had the keys (note the plurality) for the top section. But from the photos, it looked co,plate with the coin relay. It arrived yesterday and the cleaning began. I always clean before I even begin to work on them. I remove the top and checked inside, etc.
It came with a backboard, and luckily was attached with 4 bolts from the inside upper portion - no drilling needed!  :applause:
There was no cash box... darn - I was hoping for a big payoff! That's ok though.
When I finished with enough cleaning, I reattached the top. The keys were bound with an old piece of wire so I untied it and then noticed one key longer than the other. Hmmmm... could this? And yep - it was the vault key! So, that was a nice surprise for my purchase. Those locks and keys can get expensive.
Here's my before and after shots. Tonight I'll start checking the wiring and hopefully plug it in to my coin controller to see if this beast is alive.
