On an S2000 there are really very few reasons to do a full clear. Most of the time to change a game theme just change the SB chip and possibly a key chip and you are good to go.

You must use a clear chip if you want to change the game to play on a lower denomination than what it is set for in the accounting denom. IE if the game is set with an accounting denomination of $1.00 you would have to use a clear key to change it to anything lower like $.25 or $.01. You would not need a clear if you wanted to change to $5.00.

The only other time you would use a clear key is once in a while something on the machine goes really wrong and nothing else will work, A clear key should be the very last thing you would try.

A clear key will not fix a machine if there is something physically wrong with a machine. The problem must be fixed first. Too many times users think a clear will fix all of a machine's problems and the user ends up with the same issue plus having to reset all of the data to get the machine to operate correctly for home use.

A key chip is generally what should be used to change most settings that a home user would encounter.

My recommendation for anyone would be to post your problem on this site and let the experts help you. Not to say that at some point they will recommend clearing a machine but by doing it this way you will save yourself allot of extra head pounding.

Thanks for your question it was a good one.
