igt s2000 troubles
« on: August 05, 2017, 05:40:18 PM »
I have a igt s2000 triple cash with enhanced sound package, when powering on the machine all lights up but in the display it does nothing other than flicker display passes self test. The BV is not lit up as well, the reel strips are lit but have a slight flicker to them as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Is this a new machine or something new you just picked up?  First thing I would check is to make sure the power supply is fully seated, and that the mounting screw is tight. The power supply is located behind the reels.

This machine I've had for over 6 months everything seems to be tight and in place and has worked great since I've owned it

Well you need to start somewhere. I'd start by checking my power supply connection and reseating the MPU. Thinks can loosen over time.

Where in Ohio are you located? We have some NLG members in the Ohio area. That might be an option for you to get your machine repaired.

Your machine symptoms point toward a possible power supply problem. No one here can tell you exactly what is wrong without more detailed information from you. You will need to check some things and eliminate them from the list of possible causes to narrow down what is wrong. If you have another similar machine available then you can try swapping some of the parts to see what it takes to fix your machine. You can take a voltmeter and measure the power supply voltages to confirm if they are good or bad. Even if a connector is tightly connected it can still have a bad contact inside the connector. Follow the advice and suggestions of anyone taking the time to try to help you and you can get this figured out. Posting photos is always helpful, we aren't there and can't see what you see. Also, the photos increase the number of people looking at your request for help, the more people involved the better. If you do post photos try to reduce them to a reasonable size so they will be able to be viewed more quickly, huge photos are not needed.

Could be as simple as a bad Varta battery on an unmodified 1270 board. Need a picture of the MPU.

Dead varta usually makes the display blink "display netplex link down" to me it sounds like the power supply is failing under load. Or a board has a dead short and is taking out one of the voltage lines.

I don't have any way to test the enhanced sound board but I do have another one that I picked up awile ago. Can I just simply replace board or do I need to key chip, I've not messed with the s2000 that much

I personally would not just start putting known working parts into a machine with this problem. If 2 voltage lines are short to each other you can fry the new boards. I would start by unplugging or removing as many things as you can. If the flickering reel lights go away and the display stays on you know you found the part. Remove or unplug everything but the mpu vfd and power supply. If the problem doesn't change then pull mpu see if the words on the display change. If none of that changes it try a new power supply.

Kinda, sucks you have to turn the resolution down on your camera so the files are smaller.

If you attach huge photo files it makes it longer for everyone when their browser loads the page and read the thread. So no one would want you to do that even if the website allowed it. Plus it just takes up more of the website's server to store all those photos. If you want to use a big photo filesize you can upload it to a photo hosting website like imgur and then just post the link to the photo here.

Today's cameras create huge file sizes so you can print a nice quality print up to 16x20" or even a larger poster size at the photo store. That kind of resolution is not needed online on blogs and websites like this. All cameras, tablets and  phones I've dealt with had at least 3 choices for photo sizes, it's just a matter of learning how your device works. There's always the manual you can read.

Or one of the light ballasts

This ^^^. Easy to check, and a bad ballast does cause a problem with electrical power sometimes. Each fluorescent lamp has a ballast, find it and unplug it. These lights are just for general illumination, machine should work fine without them.
