Sigma Patriot Plus runaway hopper
« on: December 30, 2017, 10:42:17 PM »
Hi guys! wondering if the battery reversal trick that works on the Fortune 1 machines will work on a runaway hopper error occurring on a Sigma Slant Top PT-4B? Any ideas? My Patriot Plus just started doing this runaway hopper error this morning out of the blue.

Thanks,
scott

Probably not but you could remove the RAM chip and short all of it's legs on a piece of bare metal for about 30 seconds to clear memory.
If the hopper keeps running after that then the problem is probably in the hopper control board and not the MPU board.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Under some conditions the hopper will run to satisfy a payout from a winning spin, even if you power off the machine and then power it up again it is supposed to complete any payout that is due to the player. This may be seen as a "runaway" hopper, it's actually just trying to do its job that the mpu has instructed. Or if someone pressed the "cashout" button and there are a lot of credits on the machine and the hopper runs out of coins it will still try to run each time you power the machine up. If the machine was in the middle of a payout and ran out of coins you have to put coins back into the hopper and let it finish the payout.

But if there really is a defect then on some machines you can remove the mpu board, power up the machine and see if the hopper runs continuously. If the hopper no longer runs continuously then the mpu board is suspect. But if the hopper runs all the time while the mpu is removed then the hopper & its control board is likely where the problem is. Swapping in known good parts is a good way to find the problem.

Ok thanks a bunch you guys! I got  it to clear by firing it back up and placing enough nickels into the hopper to run all the way through a near 1000 coin payoff. Then it was all good. But then, out of nowhere she started giving a BV_error /no  V... with an    0         0   2. So I tried opening the BV and could get it to play a few times before it would error again. I continued to try and fix it until late at night when to no avail I decided to leave it on for the night. In the morning I came to find the machine still completely lit up... that is all accept the LED's. Now I am bummed out completely for I have not a single clue how to regain the LED's. All boards look fine. I don't get it. Any ideas guys?

bummed,

Scott
