2000 enhanced MEI cashflow BV not working

MEI cashflow bill. was working for a while.  on this machine, the main battery seemed to be running low, a new one lasted a week or two.   i removed the varta and u16, and put in a new main battery.  BV doesnt light up. one slow flashing green led.  swapped BV's with another game, and same deal. the other still worked.  swapped MPUs, and same deal. still not working, the other works.  cash can door switch bypassed and shows closed in test.
cash can opto seems to be good, removing and installing the can causes the BV to cycle.  bill acceptor is enabled.

two things i noticed.  the first, if i go to bill acceptor test and try to calculate the CRC , it goes into waiting, and finally , no response. on my other game, it calculates in seconds.  the other is i get a fair amount of random reel tilts on start up.  i did swap the slanted IO card, no help.

swapped mpu's, swapped Bv's, cleaned the edge connectors, did a clear/key, enabled acceptor, and i got nothing.

i swapped the edge connector card from another machine, the one in the game looked iffy. no help.

Does the BV stuff works in a know working machine?

Sounds like the next thing to try is the mother board.

you might be right about that.  not sure i want to pull one from a good machine to try, could end up with two clunkers.  i'll have to think about this one

I have had a problem a few times that the pins where the card plugs in get bent or corroded and causes problems.

Did you do a auto configure?

i was just going to post that.   i ended up putting the mei unit in another game i have that had a wba unit in it that didnt work too well. i swapped it all out, and same problem. now i'm thinking, WTF?   same deal, cant run bill test or calculate checksum. i stumble upon the auto config and figure what the heck, give it a try. well, it worked. it never occurred to me to try it.  now im kicking myself for not trying it in the other game, which is a more attractive round top. still, i was also getting a lot of reel tilts on start up with it, so who knows.
