MK6 memory issue
« on: May 18, 2017, 07:32:37 PM »
I have a MK6 Choy Sun Doa machine.  I put a new logic board in, and I get and memory reset error that shows on the screen.  When I go into the menu and look and the lockups,  it is not there.  I did a ram clear, which made no difference either.  Any ideas as to what this is and how to fix it?

Here is 2 ways that most MK6 owners use to reset the memory.
1st rule of electronic repair.
"Thou shall check voltages"

Thanks for responding.  I did a ram clear, but did not short any caps.  My operator mode screen looks different.  I
Mine has optional 1 through 5, and 7.  6 and 8 are not there.  Will these appear when I short the caps?

I put the game chips back onto the original board, and the game booted up just fine.  I just have an issue with the original board with a thumping sound every time the button lights flash, and the sound volume goes up and down by itself.

What you're showing on the screen right now is a past tilt, not an active tilt.  Have you tried playing a game on it yet?

Although the buttons all light up while booting up, once boot is completed no play buttons are lit, and no play buttons do anything when pressed.  The service light will go on with the button, but nothing else works. When the audit key is turned, the navigation buttons work, but in game mode they don't.

When the game chips are in the original board, there are credits on the game, and it plays.  When the chips are moved to the new board, no credits are showing on the screen, and it goes from play 5 reels to play one reel.

You have to run the setchip program on the new board and set the game up from scratch.  The settings are specific to boards, not the eeproms.

I just got done running the set chips program.  I set the juristiction, coin value, specific game, etc.  Then I cleared the ram.  I get the same darn Memory Reset message on the screen, with all the buttons locked up.  This MK6 has the XP board, and both the new and old boards are marked as XP.
I put the game chips back into the old board, and the game fires up correctly.  The old board has a heartbeat like thump every time the button lights flash.  Changing boards was supposed to fix that.  Ugghhhh!

So with the new board the game will not accept money?

Every Mk6 after a ram clear will show "Memory Reset" on the screen, to indicate the machine was ram cleared.  It disappears once a game is played.

I never tried to put money into it.  I've got to try that.  It may have been my problem all along!

I put the chips into the new board, and put money in.  It took the money and the game plays!  How blind i was to not see it needed credits!  It takes 1, 5, 10 and 20 dollar bills, but won't take old or new $100 bills.  It did before, so I must have set something up wrong.  Any ideas on this?

I can't remember the setting off the top of my head, gotta be sitting in front of a machine to recall, but there is an option to choose what denomination bills are accepted.  It did take new 100s before?

First, I appreciate all of your help on this.  I did get the machine to accept  all of the bill denominations now.  This is kind of like the endless problem child.  Now everything is good except when I cash out, it tells me that it is a hand pay.  It does this even when the payout is 25 cents.  The testing screen will print a test ticket, so I am guessing I screwed up a setting when I ram cleared.  Do you think I will need to do the setup chip again to fix this?

Glad you got it running!  Gotta watch that validation setting on them games, but it doesn't require the setchip to change it, fortunately.
