Key chip menu error
« on: March 12, 2018, 07:09:13 PM »
I purchased a key chip 17 for my game king 4.0. Made sure credits were cleared, inserted key chip, waited for both led’s to light up, removed key chip and re-inserted base. When I power it back on I get this message,
“Key Chip Menu Error - Fever Game In Process - Cycle Power To Continue”

Any ideas?

It sounds like a game was started but not completed when you tried to key it.  Finish playing the hand then cash out/clear any credits and re-key it.

I’ll give it another shot tomorrow. I did cash out and hit the jackpot reset so no credits were show. Weird.

I found an igt manual and it says when they key chip is inserted, turn power on, wait for the two Amber led lights to illuminate, then press the operator button. I didn’t push the button so maybe that’s the problem?

I doubt it.  After the two amber lights come on, power off and re-install the base chip.  I've never heard of a need to press any buttons after the amber lights are lit.

Still having this issue.  Could it be, that the Super 8 Race slot game shows bonus points on the game still?  Even though there are no credits on the machine, the bonus points are not at zero, it shows 143.  If that's the issue, how do you clear the bonus points ?

I wouldn't think so.  Do you have a removable battery on the MPU board? If so you could pop it out and that will clear the RAM memory.  If not you could pull one of the CMOS RAM chips out (U15 or U38) that will clear it too.  When the machine boots up you'll get a RAM error.  Just follow the onscreen directions to clear it.  After that see if it lets you key it or not.

I do have a removable button cell battery on the board.  I'll go home at lunch break and give it a try.

Scratch that. The battery is soldered in place. What chip should I pull to clear it?  Here is a picture of my board.

That's an older 3802 board.  Either one (or both if you're so inclined) of the ones circled in red.
