How To Select an IGT S2000
« on: January 16, 2017, 09:55:21 AM »
Hey everyone, I am thinking about buying an IGT S2000.  I know I want a coin machine.  I also prefer Red, White & Blue or Double Diamond flavors.

However I just got my first Bally Alphas and I have learned a lot.  I wish I had known a few things to look for before I purchased. For example, I should have insisted on the latest MPU.

So I wonder if anyone would be so kind as to offer some tips on what to look for or ask for in an S2000?

Thank you much.

I had a 5 reel s2000 "Butterfly Sevens." It was fun at first having the multiple reels and 9 lines but sometimes it actually was overwhelming with so many combinations. I actually prefer just 3 reels. Of course, you can change out the games easily in these. Sometimes game kits can be a little costly but then you can also sell you're old one back on ebay, which I've done.
The other feature I enjoy are BACKLIT reels. It makes a huge difference to me. Enhanced sound is great as well. If the machine doesn't have either feature you can buy the parts and add them yourself. It's not too difficult to do. I prefer games that have some kind of bonus feature. One if my s2000's is a 5X pay - it's fun. My other one is a Top Dollar which is great, but somewhat hard to find.
If you do get an S2000, make sure it works of course! And when you get it home, inspect the green varta battery. If it's leaking, it will wreak eventually your MPU board. In most cases you can remove the battery as you will not need it.

Among all the various good games you can't go wrong if you select a game that has the word "Deluxe" at the end of the game title, such as Double Diamond Deluxe and others. There are several of these game themes titled this way, they offer the additional fun feature called "nudge". When the reels stop spinning if a certain symbol is just above or below the payline the reel will move to the payline for a win. Most people find it adds additional excitement.

If there is a casino near you they probably have some S2000 machines (and others too), you could try various ones to see what appealed to you and what didn't.

Welcome to NLG larrydanna! I agree with shortrackskater and rokgpsman, lots of titles, lots of accessories can be added at any time. Red White and Blue is a good game. I like Double Diamond but didn't care for the 3 payline version. I changed mine to a Double Diamond Deluxe single payline and as Rok said it makes a much more fun. If you find a machine you like, you might check back here before you buy it, and see if there is anything special to look for in that specific theme. Glad to have you aboard.

Other than buying from a good dealer that will support you, and Ken certainly qualifies, you want to look for a theme that you like and it's going to be hard to find as a kit.  The common double diamonds and red white and blues are relatively easy to get.  Like rokgpsman said, the titles with "Deluxe" are the ones that are harder to pin down and dealers usually sell them with machines only.  I would get a machine with an enhanced board, and if the dealer is willing to remove the varta battery and the other required part, I would, it will save you in the future from that battery leaking acid all over your mpu board.

For the double diamond or Red White and Blue themes, the ones that are harder to locate would be Double Diamond Haywire and Double Diamond Deluxe.  The Red White and blue themes were really mostly S+ titles, they did move over to the S2000, but they didn't really make any native S2000 titles that are compelling or that you couldn't just find the kit for it as far as I know.  The hardest title on that theme for the S+ was finding a good 4th of July kit.  There might have been a haywire themed Red White and Blue, but I am not 100% sure about that.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for your replies.

This is exactly what I wanted to know.  It sounds like the Double Diamond varieties have more to offer.  I had no idea about the Haywire feature!  That's exactly what I'm talking about.

Are there any other "nice to have" features I should explore?  I'm also on the look out for titles I may not have seen before.

It sure looks like Ohio has quite a lot of people in the slot machine business.  Is it like this everywhere?

Sincerely,
Larry

I don't know a lot about it but some of the IGT machines I've played in casinos have much better sound effects than others, instead of just having the typical reel spinning sound and the dinging as wins are added. There are videos on youtube that let you hear some of these, and the folks here familiar with the better sounding games can suggest titles for you to look into.

Just about any machine is exciting when you first play it, but for more sustained enjoyment I think there are some better than others due to the sound or bonus features. This is extra important in the home because you won't be able to simply get up from a machine when you are tired of it and walk to dozens of others like you can in a casino. Many times we get a machine because it came along at the right price, not because we specifically looked for it in particular. If you can do some homework ahead of time on selecting one I think you'll be happier with it for a longer period of time. If you aren't too far from Ohio Gaming (Wilmington, OH) I'd suggest a visit to see what they can show you. As a customer I can say I was happy with them and I don't think you'd find a better place to deal with. I'm not sure if their inventory has the machine you want but I think they'll do their best to find it, plus give you expert advice in selecting one.

Some states have very few or no slot machine dealers. That may be because slots are prohibited in that state. Laws are changing slowly but there are still quite a few states where ownership of a slot machine is not legal, so there isn't much business incentive for a slot machine business to be located in that state. Not sure if this list below is completely accurate, but you can see that there aren't many states listed in green that fully allow any slot machine to be owned. Many states only allow it if the machine is very old, like 25 years or more.

I have a super Spin sizzling 7s that I've had for a while now. It has mystery nudge, haywire, win multipliers and bonus coins. I would check out videos of it on YouTube. It's one machine that won't be leaving my collection any time soon.

Couple things as far as the machine itself, regardless of the actual theme you get. Ask for something that has a 504 series or 1270 series MPU with the varta battery removed. This is worth paying extra for. Make sure it has the enhanced sounds as mentioned above. If you want coin handling, buy it that way, don't upgrade later. If you want to print and redeem tickets, same thing, get it done before you take it home. LED glass lighting is also a plus. And make sure the bill validator is set for current bills. Ken can help you with all this, but you can't ask if you don't know you should

YoEddie1,

Simply brilliant YouTube channel.  That was well worth every moment spent watching it.

I like the way you document each machine the same way.  I learned plenty, and I didn't have to drive out to the casino.  Just outta' sight.

Thanks,
Larry

Glad you like it.  What I really enjoy are all the haters that post negative comments and feel like they're getting duped because my videos don't portray real casino wins.  People make me laugh.
