Title: Game Maker v7200 monitor issue
Post by: puckhead on August 08, 2016, 11:07:23 AM
v7200 with a tatung monitor.  screen is messed up see pics. took it to a monitor guy, he things its not the monitor, i wonder.  he hooked it up to a test generator, and it sometimes  looked ok, but on some tests i still saw the black bar, others not.  he wasnt sure what frequency it should be running at, but suspect its not the monitor.  i was able to clear the game and set it up, not not properly because i cant see the whole screen.

thanks

I don't think it's your monitor.. What does it have for a chassis, is it a Ceronix unit? Looks to be something in the video output circuit..

i should have added, its a tatung monitor. is that video output on the mpu or backplane board?  wonder is another mpu would solve it?

thanks

tatung
If it were a Ceronix chassis I could help, but I don't know anything about tatung units.. Your best bet might bet to contact K-Lar.

solved.  i took the monitor to a local monitor repair shop. he tested it and told me it was good, the issue was elsewhere.  i bought an mpu board and installed it, exact same problem.  i then worked out the VGA pinouts from the schematics, cobbled together a connector, and installed a lcd desktop monitor.  i got a perfect image, so it was the monitor. a cap kit fixed it.  one of the very small caps in the corner of the chassis leaked, you couldnt see it unless it was removed. replaced all the board and neck caps, and have a very nice working game now.

Great to hear it fixed. The caps are a big problem with older electronics. They are simple to change as long as to know your + & - dirrections. Worth spending the money to change them all.
