Title: Leave machines on or off
Post by: BG1911 on May 07, 2017, 10:55:27 AM
Is there a problem with turning machines off at night and on back in the morning everyday or should I leave them on 24/7? Wondering if having them boot up everyday will cause an issue down the road?

Thanks,

Dave

We have had many discussions regarding this topic, most of us just keep them off and power up when we want to use them.

Dave also, if you are not already, get a very good surge protector (not a power strip). The higher the Joules rating, the better. Most of us use these and have found it the best way to go. Leave the power switch in the machine on and then power it up and down with the surge protector. It can save you hundreds of dollars in replaced parts in case of lightning strikes etc. A great investment to keep our "toys" working. From my personal point of view, the less I have to open and shut those doors, the better. With the price of boards, software etc. It's an investment that pays for itself, if nothing else, in peace of mind. Just my 2¢.

Thanks Shaggy.  I have them (I have bought 3 in the last week, they are multiplying for some unknown reason) on a power strip, but will change to a surge protector.  Thanks for the advise.

Hahaha, oh the multiply bug. Yeah we all catch it. Glad the new obsession is going good.   :propeller:

Make sure you get a good power supression bar, the higher the joules rating the better.  Power strips are worthless, and only have a fuse, which don't protect against transients and short spikes.

Surge protectors I use have a joule rating of 3940.

power off, only light up when using, save on hydro bill, few more spins of wheel will not matter on starting back up,best is to shut power bar off, with slot switch off ,power is still going to machine, most only use slots a few times a week, less can go wrong with machine off then on,just my way of thinging, have a merry christmas all.

I use the large UPS units 1400 Watts for two machines each. That way when the power goes off I'm still playing. :rotfl:
