When the monitor goes black does the led light stay on?

If it is on and amber/red/flashing/anything other than solid green... check inverter then CCFLs.
If the led goes out with the monitor check the monitor PSU.

if its a tovis, the light can go amber when the power supply is no good.  i had the same problem, and ran if off of a computer power supply. then i repaired the orginal. they is more than enough room back there to leave the computer supply in there if you choose.

totally different deal then.  they are high voltage and dangerous. unless you know what you are doing, you can get hurt. most likely the monitor needs work.

Can you feel any static (HV) on the screen?  If not, you may have a bad flyback.  HV is no joke and if you don't know what you're doing, you can seriously hurt yourself with a CRT chassis.  I'd suggest finding an electronics repair shop to evaluate/repair your current monitor, or think about moving to an LCD monitor.

Thanks,
