New member needs help with IGT poker machine
« on: April 25, 2016, 10:34:55 AM »
I have a draw poker manufactured 1989. It gives me a cmos error but I can close the door and turn it off and back on and it will display "call attendant" I checked the battery and it is reading 3.6 volts. Holding the key or pressin the reset doesn't seem to work. Any tips?

Try this:

Boot machine.
Open door
Push and hold reset button for a few seconds until you hear a ding sound
Close the door
Turn the reset key

If that doesn't work post a picture of the outside and inside of the machine to help identify the model.

Can you post a pic of the main MPU board. Make sure all you chip are seated and no bent legs.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...

probably not your problem but something to take a look at,,,,
near your mpu J1 connector is a FET/transistor that is bent over and its metal fin looks like it is nearly touching several of the J1 contacts??

Is that a Fortune II machine?

the board you have is a regular PE board, not a super board.  different type button panel, but your machine with that board is a PE poker machine.  try this,  turn off the power,  open machine, press and hold the white test button, now turn on the power until you hear the ding, after that , close and latch the door and then turn the reset key.  did you check the battery voltage?  should be 3.6 vdc.  if not that could be your issue.

hope this helps

Jim

Turns out that the rest switch had no continuity. I replaced the switch with a button and it started up. This is the message I have now. I have to assume without a manual it means it has no coins in it so it will not function. It is set up for quarters and I want to change it to nickels so I'll need a wheel. Will putting quarters in it make it operable?

Coin-in timeout means that a coin was inserted passed the comparitor test, but the optics did not receive the coin in time.  My guess is you have bad optics in the coin-in path.  Someone more versed with the Player's Edge platform should be able to give you a procedure to clear the error.  Did you try and feed it a coin?

I did try and the coin just fell into the tray. I found the coil for the coin reject isn't activating so I pulled it back to allow the coin to fall into the hopper. Which it did but nothing changed.

Lets start at the basics.

There are two coin-in checks.
The first is the coin comparator. If it makes it past that then it goes to the ABC optics.
The ABC optics is a small disk that ensures that as a coin passes each optic is triggered in sequence and then un-triggered at the same rate of speed.
This is to prevent various cheating techniques such as stringing a coin so it can be used over and over again. Or a light want to blind the optics.

Make sure there is a sample coin in the coin comparator. If this is a new to you machine I would suspect that someone may have removed the coin.
Lots of threads on this topic.

Secondly changing to a nickel is a bit of a pain with these machines. You will need to change the external coin head as a nickel is narrower and thicker than a quarter.
You will also have to get spacers for your ABC optics as again it needs to be widened, thirdly you will need to change the hopper wheel and adjust the hopper knife.

I run mine off of tokens - I kept the quarter bits and just changed the sample coin in the comparator.

Open the door and press the white self-test button once.  This should bring you to the self-test inputs page.  What is shown for the three "COIN DETECTOR" inputs?

This is what they should look like if your machine is idle and nothing is blocking the coin-in optics:

your machine with that board is a PE poker machine.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe it's a PE+, just with a standard (non-superboard) board.

The PE (non-plus) machines had wire harnesses that had to be removed by hand to remove the processor board, correct?  The board pictured in this thread just plugs in to the motherboard.

Might want to take a close look at your coin optic circuit boards, they are below the coin comparitor. Make sure the wiring cable connector is connected properly, that no wires or connector contacts are slid back. If you can post a photo of the inside of your main door showing the coin comparitor and the coin optic boards maybe we will see something wrong. Someone may have done something before you got the machine, like install the wrong comparitor, etc.

Replaced the coin, checked all the pins and pressed the little reset button on the optic board. No change.

I assume their may be a fuse as the green light should be lit on the comparitor?
